  1. Read an interesting book about the Oklahoma bombings, didn't deny that McVeigh was heavily involved but some doubt as to whether he was the bomber and who was really behind the whole plot. He was happy to take the blame and prosecutors were happy to blame someone so the full truth may never come out.


    Someone tried a truck bomb before on WTC Tango.


    Quite a few that were probably called conspiracy theories have proven to be true. Gulf of Tonkin, WMD in Iraq, Iran-contra, MK-Ultra, Operation Northwoods to name but a few. I do love a good conspiracy theory but most are bunk :D

  2. Several hundred would likely lose their entitlement now and It would be a massive put off for anybody wishing to do it in the future who was on benefits.

    I hope I'm proven wrong and that those several hundred people would go straight out and get jobs and become valuable members of society. I just don't think it'll happen. Some might go get jobs, some would end up either on the street or career criminals. Doesn't sound like a very good solution to me.

     

    First rioter to face eviction. Hopefully they will kick any others out that were involved and have coucnil houses.

    But won't they just go rent a private property and the DSS will pay their rent? I don't see the point, it probably costs the taxpayer more as private rental is more expensive than council properties.



    Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea of my tax money being used to allow rioters (or other crims) to keep their lifestyle. But nobody seems to be thinking about what these people will do for food and shelter after that.

  3. Having just come back from a country that has no benefits system, cities full of beggars/robbers and large areas complete no-go zones at night I don't agree with this at all. If you remove social services from those who need it (regardless if they've committed crimes or not), they'll not just wither up and disappear, more likely we'd end up unable to go out in cities at night and crime would get miles worse.


    We have a legal system to deal with people who break the law, e.g. rioters. If that's not working properly then the solution surely is to fix the legal system. Not to just give up and start removing social services or deciding that humans suddenly lose human rights because they broke a law.

  4. I think #1 is what we have now so would go with that. Agree with cruz if you don't take the piss and are fairly observant then you can make good progress.


    Unfortunately I think we need 70 limits in this country, there are just too many cretins on the road. Most around here can barely negotiate a roundabout so letting people like that on autobahn style roads would be asking for trouble.

  5. same as in a car, you will get used to it in time, although saying that, for the past week i have found myself changing down too fast and locking the back wheel. Its always best to be in a higher gear that needed so it doesnt lock up. Although this will mean you dont have as much power setting off, but you can always change down one or two when stetting off again (i still do that on rare occasion)

    I used to do that, nice bit of fishtailing. Trick is in blipping the throttle as you change down, takes a bit of practice but well worth it. Will stop the back locking up but still give you nice engine braking.

  6. I tend to approach in 1st gear, bike is a bit unsettled at low revs in 2nd plus being in 1st means I have power to pull away if traffic starts moving. Also get nice engine braking ('tis a 600). I wouldn't coast up to the junction with clutch held as the bike is more stable with drive on the back wheel, the same applies to the car but you're not balancing on it at the time so get away with it :D

  7. Use dark one, unfortunately Caberg helmets don't fit me.


    Have used it early in the morning while still dark & it was fine. Don't ride much at night, would probably take clear visor with tinted pinlock.

  8. I waited about 6 weeks after DAS then went on first one. I wouldn't say I was a particularly skilled or confident rider, but I don't think another 6 months road riding would have made any difference. Day on track helped hugely though. If you can ride on the road then you can ride on a track in novice group IMO. Avoid open-pitlane days but any with a novice group will be ok.


    Great book that someone (maybe you phil) recommended was trackdays for virgins, well worth picking up.

  9. I was tpft till i got to the zx6 before that I had 4 offs on my cbr, It was always cheaper to get it running than pay any excess tho. since going fully comp stayed upright also but it does give you peace of mind.

    Being a new rider the fully comp quotes were quite large, around £300 more than third party. That saving alone covers most damage that's likely to happen, plus the hassle of dealing with insurers to make a claim and delays put me off. If I had a more expensive bike then I'd consider fully comp.


    I do ride for fun rather than necessity though so can use the car if bike is off the road, car only costs about £20 more for fully comp.

  10. Bit late but you can get screen wash that works better in low temperatures. I've seen stuff that supposedly won't freeze at -15.


    Don't have it in mine so take a bottle of water and squeeze it out the window.

  11. Plus if that's your bike in your avatar think about buying a set of Torx sockets too as they may well be used in a few places, the calipers are held together with them on my CBR.


    I've got quite a few tools but pretty much any job I try to do involves at least one trip down town to get the vital one I'm missing! :violin:

  12. Check you've not left a massive dildo under the seat, if you did then it might need a new battery.


    Did you measure the chain just in one place or in several? I was told it can vary and is supposed to be adjusted based on the loosest point, otherwise you can end up with it correct at the point you measured but too tight in other places.
