  1. The ticket was issued by some folks called APCOA, and it says 'Civil Parking Notice' On the top of it.

I have no idea on the difference between council and company notices etc, so which one is this?

And secondly, why is it that you dont HAVE to pay a non - council ticket?

Thanks for the advice folks, like I say, I am not Tooooooo bothered about it as it is my first one, and I would rather pay the 50 than risk the 80. Having said that, I am a skint student, and it would make things rather tight so I would rather not if there is ant possible way around it.

    Thanks again folks.

Ignore ignore ignore ignore ignore ...

And if you get a warning letter to your home address threatening court action unless you pay up, ignore that too.

When the next letter comes - as it may well do - you know what to do???

    Yup, ignore that too.

Not one person who's been ticketed by a private company has taken someone to court for non-payment. The explanation behind this failure to act appears to be that they're **** scared the case would be rejected, thereby causing a precedent and their entire policy of ticketing vehicle owners would collapse.

Read what Martin Lewis has to say on the subject: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclai ... ng-tickets

  2. oh. so were they just rumors that said that the one sown in the video was temporary and that they were changing them again around new year?

Maybe. Are you sure the "rumours" were not just yet another consultation?

I seem to recall that they originally said that the offroad stuff was going back on road around October when they were intending to dumb it all down again to MCN level.

    So who knows... :D

This is how Mod 1 changed on May 16, 2011: http://www.dft.gov.uk/news/stories/dsa-news-20110328

The test in the video reflects these changes. There haven't been any changes since those introduced on May 16. It's taken the DSA until November 28 to update its video.

Separately, I'm sure a consultation is under way on proposals to go back to one, on-road test, rather than the current two module structure. I can't find it at the moment so could be wrong.

  3. One difference is that the examiner doesn't walk in front of the bike holding out his clipboard for the slow ride. Instead, the pupil is asked to ride slowly by himself and stop at blue cones.

I'm sure one of his minors is for not checking to his left and right ie. looking for moving traffic, when he's walking the bike out of the parking space.

  4. Don't direct all your opinions at me... 9 other people voted yes... Although I did start the thread I did it because I wanted to see what other people thought without going off topic.

Am Kind of amazed by that, am wondering how many were up in arms about the eu's recent proposed interfearance?

I have to say if some of us are willing to kick ourselves in the genitalia how much harder is MAG's job gonna be in the future?

Be careful what you wish for ;)

  5. Just got an iPad and the RWC app is very good :D

Looking forwardcto the whole thing, despite being a Scotland fan.

I work in England so I can legitimately support both nations.

I thought Jocks always supported 2 teams: Scotland and anyone playing England

Nah, only the nationalist wing of Scots do that. There are some sensible, right-thinking ones among us.

  6. Just flagging up tomorrow's World Olympic Dreams programme at 1pm on BBC One.

It's presented by that well-known biker Sir Matthew Pinsent, who's also done a bit of rowing in his time.

In this programme, he went off on his bike to Birmingham, Bury, Cardiff and Sheffield to see how sports clubs and schools are preparing for the Olympics.

Last time I spoke to him (yes, I know I'm name-dropping) he was riding a Triumph Tiger.

    Programme details here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b014j7yv

  7. Back page of the evening standard shows it wasn't Vilanova's ear but his eye! Looks nasty...

Completely agree. It was funny while it was an "ear tweak", but as closer examination shows, it was actually an eye gouge.

    He's a twat.

And I hope he's made to pay for his actions although what would a fine or a ban amount to?

    He'd sneer at that too.

  8. I was in the Air Training Corps throughout my teens and always wanted to be a Tornado pilot but Spitfires always fascinated me and I'd always wanted to see Biggin Hill.

You should have been at Whitstable this afternoon. Spitfire doing a solo dog-fight display just off the beach. Damn noisy thing, could barely hear my bike above his racket! :P

  9. I think a fair few people on this forum support Help for Heros so I thought you might like to see some pics I took when we stopped at RAF Biggin Hill yesterday during a ride in parts of Kent.

When we were inside the chapel, I heard the sound of an aircraft but didn't get out in time to see it. Turns out it was a Hurricane, part of the Battle of Britain Flight, which was appearing in an air show at Eastbourne.

A wee while later, there was another low rumble overhead and this time I saw the aircraft - one of only two Lancaster bombers still flying.

Over drink later, Mrs S and I discussed the fact that there aren't too many WWII veterans left and there won't be any in the not too distant future.

One of my pictures shows the book of remembrance, which has a page for each day and lists the names of those who were based at Biggin Hill and who died during WWII. They turn the page every day to correspond with the date and if no-one died on that day, they go to the next day.

It's Mrs S's birthday today and she was happy to find that no-one was killed.

    Kharma.
