The numbers at Pease Pottage on the A23 were overwhelming as was the sheer diversity of bikes and people involved. Here are some photos from the Pease Pottage - A23 - Brighton run. I expected lots of angry overtakes from cars caught up in the ride but very few cars passed and those that did were travelling slow enough to eyeball all the bikes. I think the ride must have strung out about 5 miles! As is typical this year we also braved the forecasted rain (of which we saw very little) and rode the 90-odd miles to the Ace Cafe the day before the burn up for the annual cafe racer day. The turnout, especially of our German brethren, wasn't as good as previous years, possibly because of the lousy weather forecast. Bummer was I forgot my camera. So, I took a few photos on the camera of my 6 year old Nokia, which isn't even rated in mega pixels! 4 of us rode down to the Brighton Burn Up ...and couldn't get in!!! Such was the number of bikes there Madeira Drive was full up by about 10am so we parked up on the top Marine Parade Road and walked through the event. Last weekend we did the Bulldog Bash again, setting off from Southwick in the damp on Thursday with me on my W, my lad on his CB500 and our mate Dave on his F650GS. Near Winchester we picked up my Nephew Clarke on his Fazer 6. After arriving in the dry we pitched, ate, watched the bands and ate donuts. On Saturday we ate then rode out to the National Motorcycle Museum. The array of bikes is simply mind boggling. Lots are prototypes from the old Brit factories that never saw the light of day such as the Trident motor in a Bonnie frame, Trident motor in a Commando frame (awesome!), the legend 4 cylinder 1000cc, the Triumph Bandit 350 (my favourite). After Friday's bands (including Bad Manners and Status Quo) we ate more donuts then made plans for Saturday. Saturday we visited Stratford upon Avon and Warwick, whizzed back to watch the stunt shows and drag racing exhibition rides including the Fireforce jet car, almost missed the red Devils parachuting in, visited the Custom tent, ate, watched the Damned and the Wet T shirt competition and ate more donuts. Sunday was a dry day yet again, only the 3rd time in my 11 Bashes that all 4 days have been rain-free (it did rain overnight Friday though). Weirdly the quietest helmet I've ever bought was a full face from Aldi. I needed a full face for a long trip this April and had dropped mine recently so I picked one of these up at the last minute for £30. It's the quietest helmet I've ever worn on a naked bike. TBH what works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for someone else even on the same bike. A 1" taller person can push a quiet lid into noisy territory as can screens, luggage, pillion etc. I don't wear earplugs either.

A good thread. Nice one! Only one thing at the moment I'd disagree on, and that is this- They aren't rare at all. There are an awful lot about. As for not loved they are one of the very few 125s to have their own owners club and forum which is thriving. They are ridden by learners and experienced bikers alike. The owners forum regularly has photos and reports of intercontinental trips on VanVans.

I'm presently using the Aldi base layers. Someone on another forum recommended them so I bought a set this April when they did their biker stuff. They are better than owt I've used before and if they do the same deal next April I'll buy several sets. Sorry that this is of no use to you right at this moment in time.

Flip lids generally work well with glasses because you can get the specs seated before you put your lid on, pretty much the same as you can with an open face. Personally I hate the extra weight they carry though. The cheaper AGV full face lids are generally OK but as said before try some on.

It does look very similar in many ways to the 1960s Jawa 250 type 353 but I don't ever remember Jawas (or CZs) having side mounted carbs, which was the distinguishing feature of this Puch. There was obviously some plagiarism, cloning and copying around in the 50s and 60s particularly amongst two stroke workhorse bikes. DKW (East German) 2 stroke technology was recognised as the pinnacle at the time and so found its way both West and East into MZs, CZs, Voshkods and the BSA Bantam.

A bit out-dated now though,. doesn't mention Sharp testing It is an American article. Sharp testing is a UK enterprise.

Been done to death everywhere TBH. Pretty much preaching to the converted on here too I think. To summarise, "a cheaper helmet not spec'd for racing may well perform better in a crash at road speeds." Still a good article though.

It was only on for 5 hours today I'm afraid. The old Puch was a corker, totally unrestored! The guy had ridden it there and reckoned he had 2 more that he rode around on regularly too.

The lad and I bobbed down to the Adur Transport Fayre today. We used to go a few years ago but have missed it for about 3 years. My mate Greg used to show his latest restoration projects there, usually a 50s/60s Triumph or BSA of some description. This continued even when Greg was undergoing chemotherapy and surgery for cancer. Having beaten cancer he sadly died of a heart attack, an irony he'd have found hilarious I'm sure. Not many bikes there and not much interest in the ones that were there. In fact my W800 had more of a crowd in the car park. The whole day seems to have become less of the transport more of the fayre. There were some great old cars and a few military vehicles there though, among the Morris dancers and the Donkey Derby, which seem to have infiltrated the day since we were last there. In case you didn't get the message, whoever told you that is an idiot! Giving new starters advice like that often causes them to spend £150+ on a helmet that will protect less than a £30 one in a road traffic accident and not have enough money to spend on a decent jacket, boots and trousers. Listen to the advice on here as regards recommendations, check the Sharp ratings, try some on and buy one that fits and that you like.

TBH on a CBF 125 I'd fit the Renthals, ditch the bar ends and fit some closed end grips instead. Failing that have you tried David Silver Spares as they tend to hold a lot more stock than regular dealers? They may have the original bars, bar ends and whatever else you need in stock.

One of the reasons I went for Draggin's rather than Hood was because the Draggin's just had patches of kevlar in the appropriate areas. The principle of that is that should you crash and the jeans have to be cut off you, the paramedics can do that at the scene, cutting the denim-only areas. If the kevlar is all-covering the jeans have to be pulled off as the kevlar can't be cut through with tools the paramedics carry. Mind you, this was a few years ago, technology may have moved on...but the jeans haven't worn out yet to the extent that I need to replace them.

It's no slouch either. I've ridden round Rutland with Fred before. It's a great place for a rideout.

That was common for Hondas of that era. I think at the time ATF was more stable as regards variations in temperature. So, using ATF the same oil provided the same damping in Florida and Alaska. The CX500s I owned both had ATF spec'd for the forks. I think the weight of ATF is about 7.5w so you'd probably find that you could experiment with 5w - 20w fork oil to get the damping you prefer but ATF works well enough.
