  1. Anyone doing the Bulldog this year?
  2. Oh I dunno, white or white 'n' black lid and a pair of these. http://www.berik.co.uk/usrimage/cat6916.jpg I have a pair of these in white and they look and feel the mutt's nuts.
  3. uh oh I like them....you'd better go for the black ones!
  4. The 400 Burgman is 33 bhp, as is the Yamaha Majesty 400 and the Piaggio Xevo 400.
  5. It works exactly the same way as the manual bike licenses as regards capacities, power restrictions etc. The difference is that pass Mod 1 and Mod 2 on an automatic bike or scooter and your full licence only covers you for automatics. To ride a 650 Burgman you'd have to do DAS or do your 2 year probation on a sub 33 bhp scooter.
  6. Yep, much as I'd love to do this; despite the fact that I'd be a lot slower than most on my bike; Circumstances mean that to do it I'd have to cover 900 miles+ in less than 24 hours and still be fit to socialise afterwards. Much as I hate to admit it, I ain't as hardcore as Nick Sanders. I'll drop a few quid in the pot this year though.
  7. [old bloke] Back in my day we didn't have track days, we went production racing if we wanted track time. More specifically "we" went production racing on a cheaply obtained ex racing Suzuki X7 at least a year after the Yamaha LCs hit the tracks...and what a blindingly good decision that was!! Strangely I have no desire to go and do a track day these days. [/old bloke]
  8. Nope, not in my experience. Mine are exactly the same waist size as my Levis, my work trousers, and every other pair of trousers I own (admittedly not many)
  9. A nice day for the run today and some great 'peds in attendance. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/ged_asbery/fs1e%20run%202001/DSCF2273.jpg 10. OK fail There is no actual route pinned up on Fzzy talk forum, just some basic details:- The pack will be leaving the Bat and Ball at 8am and heading off to the Chalet Café at Cowfold for breakfast Henfield Road, Cowfold, Horsham ( Postcode= RH13 8DU). At the same time the main pack will be forming at the Motorcycle Workshop in Bolney London Rd, Bolney, Haywards Heath, West Sussex RH17 5PY. We will depart from Bolney at 10am sharp for a 2 hour leisurely run to Brighton via some lovely countryside. THIS YEAR WE WILL BE HEADING FOR BRIGHTON MARINA for a short stay before continuing on our run back to the Bat and Ball at Billingshurst. WE WILL NOT BE STOPPING AT THE MADEIRA DRIVE SEAFRONT. If you are coming for the day and can be all ready by 8am then come to the Bat and Ball and park up (free parking). We will stop at a petrol station when departing Brighton. If you wish to head off by yourself please feel free! We will aim to be back at the Bat and Ball for 2pm where we can have a bit of a social and draw the 2011 Raffle! I always get to the Motorcycle Workshops for about 9.30, leave after the pack and follow them through to the pub at Devil's Dyke then on to Brighton. So I guess the pertinent meet points for the actual ride are: Bolney Motorcycle Workshop to 10.00 am Devil's Dyke pub: 10.30-11 ish (I guess?) Brighton Marina 12-1 pm ish ?
  11. Yep, I think it was on that "Classic Jap " stand at Brightona with a few other kettles, too. I'll dig out the route they are using this year and post it up later, then if you do decide to come a little later you can intercept the ride somewhere.

Might be worth searching or asking on r1-forum.com This is the link to their 02-03 R1 tech section http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=103
  13. Worth a trip over from Telford for nostalgia alone, Susieque
  14. If you have an interest in 70s/80s Sports Mopeds this is the event of the year. The event is always well attended and the ride is a lot of fun. The ride itself sets off from the Motorcycle Workshops at Bolney at 10 am but it is well worth getting here earlier just to look around the bikes. The start point details are as follows: Motorcycle Workshops, London Rd, Bolney, West Sussex RH17 5PY Here are some photos from the start at Bolney last year. I just wish that photos could capture the heavenly smell of two strokes and the sound of the biggest "moped gang" you've probably ever seen all setting off at once! 15. Basically guitar plus I fronted up the band that played Alton regularly. I'll PM some details. It just looks like I'm showboating if I do it on here.
  16. I should add that I never played at the Station Cafe, I only ate there. The gigs were at the Community Centre. The Station Cafe does do better food though.
  17. Mine predated the Oxford First-time panniers. They came with wrap around grey nylon covers. Even without them they have been 100% waterproof...in fact I've never used the covers and don't even know where they are now. Fold-over seams and yards of velcro keep 'em sealed. Would I trust 'em though? Well the fact that every trip with them is prepared for with the purchase of a roll of 20 bin liners is the answer to that one.
  18. I've had a pair of oxford blue nylon ones for what seems like for ever (early 90s at least) and they weren't new when I got them. Definitely recommended but not very sartorially elegant.
  19. If you are ever out for a weekday lunchtime ride check out the Station Cafe at Alton. I sometimes meet some old biking buddies there for lunch. The liver and bacon is to die for. Strange place in some ways but I've played gigs there to several hundred kids, all shipped in via their parents' people carriers.

    Cleaning forks

Wot megawatt said, nitromors is your friend, and yes they are an aluminium alloy, hence the white powdery corrosion under the pickled lacquer. I have stripped off the lacquer on fork legs, polished 'em up a bit with a polishing kit (though you could use autosol) and protected 'em with a wipe over with an ACF50 soaked rag every few months. Last bike I did that on was my GSX1400. The GSX14s were notorious for lacquer scabbing on the fork legs. This pic is 18 months including 2 Winters' worth of riding, just protected by the ACF50:- http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s136/gedsquier/DSCF2016.jpg
  21. ^^^ Wot they said! I have had situations where the blasting has removed huge areas of oxidised metal frm areas that I just thought were surface rusted, in one case producing a perfectly coated frame... that then needed blasting and coating again after a lot of welding. If there are areas you are unsure of, rub them down first and get any welding done beforehand.
  22. Practice , practice, practice, ride, ride, ride. In all seriousness I always have had a preference for left hand bends. However the strips on any of my tyres always disappear on the right side much quicker, probably because I think more about right hand bends, even after 32 years of road riding.
  23. I'll come for a ride with you sometime. Not tomorrow though, first service due for the bike (overdue according to the mileage ) and booked in for tomorrow.
