  1. Woohoo. cast is off and it all looks OK according to those who know Still quite stiff and sore, but hopefully I'll get back on at some point this week - even if its just round the block lol
  2. Congrats and all the best for you and yours
  3. I use a xena alarmed disk lock when I'm out and about, but at work even with a private carpark and CCTV I still chain it to the fence - too easy for some tw4t to lift it into a van for my liking. I leave that chain attatched to the fence and use another one in the garage. None of these would stop a determined theif, but hopefully will make the majority of them look for something a bit less awkward
  4. On my CBT the instructor took us down a few roads with these daft humps. His instruction was to avoid them where it was safe and to do the appropriate shoulder checks as we changed road positions round them i.e. left shoulder check if going round the inside of one followed by a right shoulder check as you move back into the centre of the lane and vice versa if going round the outside
  5. Cheers folks Was back at the hotpital today for a second x-ray now that the swelling is down. Clean break of the right radius but not moved much so they're happy to go with a cast and no surgery needed Looks like I wont be riding for about 6 weeks but think I'll get my theory booked and get the bike cleaned up while I'm off it
  6. Had a great run out yesterday enjoying the sun and the quiet back roads everything was going well till I came up to a left hand bend. Got about halfway round and realised I was running wide leant in a bit more and thought I'd got it back but the next thing I know I've planted it in the grass verge First car that passed stopped and helped me get it back upright and I rode back into Paisley. My right hand was throbbing a bit so stopped in at the hospital to get checked out. Got a broken wrist to match my seriously wounded pride Looks like I wont be riding for a couple of weeks, but could have been worse. Bikes fine mechanically but the fairings are gubbed on one side so off to hunt for bits while I'm healing lol
  7. Just relax and enjoy it. my first time on a bike was my CBT and when I started 10 mph was too fast! Once the nerves settled I loved every minute
  8. I got a XENA XN18 (think thats right) for mine. Thatcham and Sold Secure Gold rated and got a nice loud alarm to remind me to take it off - only done that once so far, stood the bike up off the side stand wondered what all the noise was about for a second The guy I got it from emailed me a template for all the XENA disc locks by email. printed it out, done the Blue Peter bit with the scissors and picked the biggest one that would fit my disc
  9. not tried the pinlock yet, still saving for a better helmet. Bought a stick on type from ebay in the mean time, meant toreat to sunlight and darken accordingly. TBH has worked pretty well so far, only down point is it doesnt adhere to the visor properly all the way round. This means it lets in a wee bit of moisture and mists up at times. I imagine this is the same problem your having. from my understanding of proper pinlocks it sounds as though your is not fully sealed and is letting in summit it shouldnt
  10. maybe just worryin too much. Bike seems simpler than the car for a lot of stuff, but the wee nagging voice at the back of my head keeps saying its not that straight forward lol
  11. I'm looking at a couple up here. Been working on my car for years but still feel a bit out of my depth on the bike. Would rather go n get the basics shown to me than try it myself n cock it up lol
  12. I got the same issue with the long / fat fingers not sitting right in gloves. Spent a while in the bile shop trying on every pair I could see and flexing my hands as though I was riding etc. Not ideal, but did make me bypass a couple of pairs. Ended up with a pair of Weis ones, only problem is they're a short glove so I get a gap opening up between my glove and jacket occasionally. Ideal for the warmer weather, but I'll need to find something else when it turns cooler
  13. My first day out after my CBT I locked the rear wheel trying to stop for a granny who decided on a sudden direction change. Bike started to go sideways and I released and re-applied and managed to control it somehow. Slowed me enough to get round her tho and I've been more carefull how I use both brakes ever since
  14. I went for a hefty chain which I leave attached to the fence in the work carpark, that way I dont have to lug it about with me and a Xena XN18 disc lock for if I have to leave it anywhere else. To be fair she really only goes from the lock up to work and back at the moment so dont really have a need for anything more serious
  15. just my tuppence, Been on four wheels for years, but two wheels are very new to me. The same things apply across the board though. Anyone who says they never speed is tellin fibs, but there is a difference between simply sticking the toe down (twisting the wrist now) and driving as road traffic conditions dictate. I always try and stick to the lower limits - there's too many hazards not to. Built up areas, narrower roads, traffic etc, its time to slow down and I dont mind holding up the traffic behind me. Motorways and better roads, there's nothing better than pushing it a bit. As long as it feels safe I'll keep going. While for the moment, the bike tops out under 70, I know my car will do far far more than twice the limit if I wanted to go there. Speed is not the be all and end all, but driving/riding safely and being able to pull up feeling good at the end of a run is amazing S

    Fork Seals

Having been riding for te grand total of 2 weeks, I've came out of work tonight to notice a small puddle of oil sitting in the rim of my front wheel. Looks like one of my fork seals has gone, I know one end of a spanner from the other, but as I'm a complete noob to bikes is it something I could attempt myself, or better off sticking it into a garage? Cheers Stewart
  17. Did you hear about the magic tractor? It went down the road and turned into a field!
  18. The instructor on my CBT said it could be an offence to ride with the face up as it is a structural part of the helmet but only works as one in the down position. He also said that his main concern is that the flip part does not lock fully in the up position and could therefore fall down while riding - could be a bit distracting lol
  19. Last time I had one like that on the car I used a set of Irwin damaged nut and bolt removers. Got them off ebay, but basically as you "loosen" the bolt the Irwin socket bites into the head and forces it off. Saved my *rse a couple of times lol
  20. yeah thats the one. down behind the townhall
  21. Just heard Rock Radio are doing a charity bike wash this Saturday at MCS in Renfrew. Few of the DJ's and some PR girls so might be worth a visit Just round the corner from me so hopefully have the bike here n get round to see whats happening
  22. Hi Guys, I'm in Renfrew. Yellow Hyosung 125 should be sitting outside in a few days n hopefully I'll get to meet up with some of you Stu
  23. the instructor who had me out said he used it everywhere (avoiding the brakes obviously) and meant he could just rinse the bike off after a ride
