  1. If you are spitting it into 2 days, I recommend Tyndrum to Connell, rather than going up A82 with all the tourist traffic, if doing this in 1 day, by the time you get up there you won't have the time, the inclination, or the energy!

Definitely this, also I'd suggest the A702 Carronbridge to Elvenfoot as an alternative to the A74M or B7076

  2. So your instructor on that CBT is an idiot, they should have explained what to do, how it works and taken their time with you.

If you want lessons on the road, you have to do the cbt. I remember from mine it was a 1 day thing with an optional 2nd day (included) if it was taking you longer to learn.

Hopefully someone in your area can suggest a good school for you to learn with who will do the job properly.

    Good luck. :)

  3. Where is the option for stupid?

Like most road users I don't think they do it deliberately, but as the road users (not pavement users) who require least training I think bad decisions and perceived invincibility shouldn't be a surprise.

  4. but advisory for more experienced drivers, allowing the driver to decide what limit is best for the conditions.
Seriously? It's the 'older ,ore experienced drivers' who do many of the more stupid things i see regularly, including inappropriate speed. The current 6 points and your out for new drivers already gives a form of your 'advisory limits' and doesn't work.

IMO limits are too high in urban areas (well not actually too high, but if they were e.g. 20 then people might actually drive at 30) and too low on motorways and nationals (where the limit really does have no relationship to what is safe)

  5. Take a holiday and an empty suitcase and shop away!!

Although not sure if there is a maximum allowable quantity of motorbike parts you can bring back as luggage!

    Lol

I once bought a mountain bike back to the uk that I bought in the states, and paid no duty, but I guess they might have thought I took it with me..

If you own something for more than a year you don't have to pay tax on it, so that's most likely what happened.

I'd see if you can get the cheap stuff shipped in lots of less than £20 which is IIRC the limit on 'free' imports and the expensive stuff in as big a group as possible to avoid Royal Mail's money for nothing charge.

As others have said it's totally down to luck. I've had things of similar value coming in with and with out charges for no good reason.

  6. I have a Drift GHOST HD camera, with helmet mount and wing mirror mount.

    Here is the camera

and here is some footage from windsurfing with the camera, select 1080 quality when viewing, the camera has a remote which fits nicely onto the handle bars

I haven't uploaded my bike footage yet, but its a great camera.

Heres some with my old camera, also 1080 HD

We were pretty tempted by the ghost, but the 240fps on the gopro sold it for us this time round.

  7. I tend to spot the signs a mile off so get the chance to steer clear of them. So thankfully i Dont find myself involved with them too often, but I regularly despair at the standard of driving I witness, and IMO its getting worse!! :(

A few comments made me want to say the same thing; just because I get to spot a nob of the day doesn't mean I had to do anything drastic to avoid them. Take the guy pulling out on a round about this morning, I had a feeling he would but that doesn't stop him being a dick.

To those wanting to live up here, I think the central belt of Scotland is terrible for crap driving, if it's not deliberate actions it's morons not looking what they're doing. Anything lower than Lanark and above Aberfeldy seems a good choice though. :) The most relaxed I've been while driving recently was on my infrequent trips back to England. :D

  8. The stupid woman who stopped her car in the middle of a junction to go talk to a policeman.

The road through Hardgate/Faifley was closed so loads of rush hour diverted traffic and she just stops and holds people up even more than they already have been. I'm surprised no one was hitting the horn. Couldn't drive round her due to all the diverted traffic coming the other way.

  9. I always stop leaving them only just enough space to crawl through if they don't respect who has right of way. :)

Me too! i think thats part of the reason he was swearing at me...

    Depends what vehicle I'm in!

If it's the bus then they are reversing

I've done that too when i get the chance!
  10. So far I'm relatively unimpressed.

Quality of the kit is good, and most importantly despite looking like it will cause issues when helmet mounted, I never noticed it was there even up to 70.

Picture quality is definitely better than my cheap £15 camera but I'm not sure it's 24 times as good (i might be doing something wrong)

Also the supplied software is crap. You can't edit a video with out converting it from mp4 to AVI or MOV, then some basic adjustments are possible after which you have to convert again (to mp4 i think). No ability to combine clips either which seems crazy, unless it's just a ploy so you buy their expensive software. Even the short 2 minute video Gayle took was about 20-30 minutes in conversion. Mine from this morning (7m long) has so far taken about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to reach 71% and now seems to be stuck.

If it ever converts I'll post my test video.
