houltmac Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 My new Abba stand arrived today and I was so excited. Sad, but true.Anyway, I went to fit it just now and it just doesn't seem as simple as advertised. The fittings (bike specific for my 2007 ER6) are loose enough that the two halves won't stay put, and the whole thing just wants to fall over while fitting because of the lean of the bike on the side stand. Once it's up it's rock solid, but it's a 2 man job and takes about 10 minutes.I also need to remove some side panels, which is only 1 bolt per side, but it's a pain in the ass I hadn't envisaged.Has anyone else got an Abba stand, or experience of one? Am I doing something wrong? Quote
Guest akey Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I have one, and it sounds like you are doing something strange, here is how I do mine (used to use it on my old heavy gixer).fit the bike specific fittings to the 2 parts of the stand (seperated) with a little grease to keep them in place.place the bigger of the 2 bits (L shaped) so the fitting is lined up an in the bike.Take the smaller bit, and slide it in place with the fitting in the correct place, its wobbly but should stay put without support now.Move round the other side of the bike and tighten the lock nut to hold the frame together, then tighten the screw that closes the adaptors together (big screw thread on the opposite side to the handle).back round the handle side, pull out the handle to full extension, lift the bike upright so the back of the stand is level on the floor, you can now hold the bike upright with the handle of the abba stand. Now pull the handle to the front of the bike and there you go bike up off the floor. If you want to lift the fron just use a jack under the engine or the exhaust, because the bike is on the balance point very little pressure is actually placed on the jack, my gixer was left like this for 2 months while i worked on it.Hope that has helped. houltmac Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Thanks guys. I have seen the video and I knew what to do, I just assumed it would really be as simple as that I guess. I think I'm just grumpy and out of patience after a long day at work. I just did it much easier, but it's still not as smooth as I had hoped:1. I have to take these little covers off, which is just an unnecessary hassle I hadn't thought about2. The bike specific fittings aren't nearly as tight as I imagined, so I have to hold the whole thing in place while leaning over the bike trying to do up the thing3. The two halves don't slide together as easily as they might, perhaps this will loosen in the futureAs I said, I'm just grumpy after a long day. I'm sure I'll try again at the weekend and it will be super-smooth. Cheers! Quote
