Hi, Im biking round the uk mainland coastline in ten days, start Gt Ormes Head, Llandudno, North Wales, 9.00 am 23rd Dec 09.

I've just been Googling about and found out that John o' Groats is so called because of a Dutchman named Jan de Groot who acquired funding for a ferry terminal to be built for ferries to go between the mainland and Orkney. This happened around 1496 during the reign of James IV as his father, James IIV acquired the islands from the Norwegians in 1472 as a replacement for a failed Dowry payment for his wife, Margaret of Denmark. How's that for a bit of history then

I was thinking of popping up to Liverpool on Day 10 and tagging along for the final bit.

But the weather forecast says it'll be a bit nippy.

It looks like Rob is having a hell of a time up in Scotland. His bike has broken down and he is carring on on foot getting lifts and catching Buses.

this is what i did in 2008 but i did it in summer and that was hard enough,took us 14 days too,great journey tho,learnt alot about myself
