  1. Very carefully put a punch mark in the centre of the stud, then taking a small sharp drill bit carefully drill through the centre of the snapped bolt. Then use a slightly larger drill bit and enlarge the hole. Then using a stud extractor screw it into the drilling and using plenty of heat/penetrating fluid slowly tighten the extractor into the snapped stud and if everything goes to plan it should come out.
  2. When you are on your test talk to yourself out loud. Talk yourself through EVERYTHING you are approaching telling yourself what to do. If your instructor was any good he/she would have been telling you these things as you rode along so now tell yourself the same things. Not only will it help you relax and it will make the test go quicker. Try it on your own bike,it works!!
  3. Guys I have posted this on another forum as well but every little helps so here goes: My '95 ZZ R-600 is sometimes difficult to get into 3rd gear, mainly from cold. When I start the bike from cold on the centre stand, the rear wheel spins as though a gear is engaged even when its in neutral. Now Im assuming both problems are clutch related. Would this point to a clutch problem? I think the chain adjustment could also cause the difficult gear change but the spinning wheel has me confused. Cheers
  4. I have had a look on here but cant seem to find any posts. For your info the above show has been cancelled for this weekend due to adverse weather conditions round here.
  5. You, me and every other forum member, Matey. I would be quite happy if the bloody snow melted.
  6. Well I have just been out for a few pints with some mates and we are going to Ireland in the new year hoping to coinside with some Irish road racing action. Why not join us?
  7. Good Luck with your journey mate.
  8. I tried the caberg helmet as well and also found my chin touching the helmet. I wanted a flip lid for using it for work, saving the hassle of having to take helmet off for refuelling, getting buzzed through the gate etc etc. I bought a fairly cheap BOX flip lid which suits me for work, think it was around the £70 It has a decent lining and fits very comfortable. I will be buying another helmet in the new year but for now it does the job.
  9. You wil be asked some questions relating to the general bike, like how to check the oil, electrics, lights, horn etc You may be asked about pillion and what changes you may have to make to the bike if carrying a pillion. So start at the botton and work up,Tyre pressures, suspension, lights and mirrors. Then you may be asked how carrying a pillion will alter your riding, that means the bike will accelerate slower, take longer to slow down etc etc. You may also be asked what to say/do with a pillion such as tell them to sit facing forward, helmet on and fastened and not to make any hand signals or put feet down until you tell them to do so.
  10. It had to be said for memame's sake. Oh yes and well done for passing your test mate.
  11. I dont want to piss on your parade either, but at the end of the day you are on a bike and the "prick" as you put it, is in almost 2 tons of metal, you will come off worse in any contact. Chill out when you get your Hornet, you will be able to out accelerate any car you come up against, so having a bit of restraint especially in town will leave you with the feeling "I can pass you if I want, but I chose to stay here". Dont become another biker that someone like me has to tell the parents/wife/boyfriend that they are dead.
  12. Hi all I have just been told of a bike meet every Monday in St Annes, does anyone from here attend? Is it any good and does anyone turn up if the weather is a bit shitty? I wouldnt like to ride only to find me,myself and I there.
  13. Cheers I will have to check that.
  14. What a bloody faffing about little job. Turned out the glue I put on had worked its way inside the plactic sleeve for the throttle and was causing the sticking. I have fitted the grips now without glue and they seem to be holding tight, the throttle grip clicks into place and t'other one is well tight. So for now all is well, just the bar ends to refit, once they arrive and Im out again. Thanks for the assistance guys.
  15. Yeah it does sound confusing,ha ha. I initially fitted the grips as a trial run, then everything was fine, I then glued them on and the trouble began. I then took the grips off again and the problem is still there. Had to order new bar ends from Kawasaki along with retaining screws, now I wished I had just kept cold fingers.
  16. Having thought about it overnight I think the problem could be down to the glue used on the grips. I did the trial run and all was ok, once I put the glue on my throttle problem started,I have now removed the throttle grip and even without the grip on the throttle is sticking, I think some glue has worked itself up between the plastic throttle tube and the bar so I will have to have a look and clean it out. Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted if Im successful.
  17. I tried the impact driver but no luck, I had to resort to grinding the heads off the screws to get the bar ends off. Now I have fitted the heated grips the bloody throttle is not returning and shutting off. Think I need to strip it all down again and see what I have done wrong. Luckily I have not glued the grips on. Any ideas why the throttle will not return?
  18. Hi all I have tried to remove the bar ends on my ZZR600 to fit heated grips but I cannot get the screw undone holding the bar end onto the bar. Anyone have any ideas? I have tried brute force with a big screwdriver but I have begun to round the screw head off. Will I have to resort to heat and a hacksaw?
  19. The more training you get the more confident you will feel. Two hours training is only getting you used to the bike, not sorting out your actual training needs. I would say take as much time as you feel you need, if your confident to take your mod1 then go ahead. Mod2 will require more than two hours as you have your positioning, entry speed to corners, signals, roundabouts, overtaking, hill starts etc etc to get right. Best of luck with your tests.
  20. There has been a lot of talk about the dreaded swerve test and people being injured, On the face of it accelerating into a hazard is a no no.....unless your on your mod1 test. Most of the previous comments have covered the actual test. I will say something about the swerve test "DO NOT TOUCH YOUR BRAKES UNTIL YOU ARE IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION" there is plenty of room to bring your bike to a stop after the swerve. Come out of the semi circle in second gear acceletate fairly hard to the speed trap, keep the throttle on until you hit the trap close the throttle and simply swreve around the cone, then brake and come to a stop in the box. If you feel like a practice then by all means do it once a little slower to get a feel for it (but dont hit any cones) then you will be given a second run to get up to speed.. Remember your lifesavers, treat the test as a road exercise.
  21. Ah well if you lot are meeting at 10am I will have to sit this one out. Next time. Have a good ride.
  22. Are you guys meeting in Manchester or elsewhere?
