Colin the Bear Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Automatic choke? Throttle sticking? Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Sticking slider in the carb.Cable not running free.Easy check - Remove carb end of throttle cable and manually pull the throttle linkage (gently) - let go and if it returns easily (every time, even from a short pull), slider functioning OK. Suspect cable - check for kinks and lube it.If all above OK - Then carb itself needs cleaning or, possible air intake problems.Good luck.GOG Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 The throttle goes back to its starting position when i let go of it, but the revs still stick it must be a Auto choke as i dont see one on my bike, but it just revs high and holds revs even when the throttle is at its normal postion, Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 The handle might be returning but the cable might not.Possibly a job for WD40 or similar such spray lube. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 If i take a couple of pics and put there up on here could someone just point out the bits im ment to be WD40'in, so i know what bits to do etc, I will take the pics now while there is still light! Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 A couple of pics of what im guessing could be the problem? but were or what to spray?http://img94.imageshack.us/i/picture001gg.jpg/http://img264.imageshack.us/i/picture002uw.jpg/http://img692.imageshack.us/i/picture003fe.jpg/http://img63.imageshack.us/i/picture004wn.jpg/ Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Try GOG's advice, i've heard of this before and it seems the best thing to check.. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Had another look at it and i opened the Airbox and theres 2 filters in there, a foam panel and then a HoneyComb looking one, Theres a Air inlet hole im guessing that were its sucked in from but the foam feels abit damp? Could this be affecting it? Also theres a rubber seal around the airbox also and that feels damp also! Were do i find the throttle link-age? if someone could describe from one of the pics i put up.. thank you! Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 the airfilters should be slightly oily.. open the throttle at the bar (the switchgear) and pour small drops of oil into where the cables are, and operate the throttle to work the oil into the cable, do this a couple of times, the oil will over time work it way down the cable (gravity)WD40 will clean the cable but isn't the best for maintenance, a bit of oil works best, 3 in 1 or engine / chain oil is fine. scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Are we talking were the throttle is, that cable i put a picture up of just underneath it? Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Are we talking were the throttle is, that cable i put a picture up of just underneath it?on the handle bars... the pictures are of the carb. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 There should be a picture of the throttle cable also?! Am i to open the nuts up on that and oil it up down that? This picture - http://img63.imageshack.us/i/picture004wn.jpg/Sorry for what may seem like a very easy problem im just not very bike minded Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 the nuts on the picture are for adjustment. can you take a pic of the throttle itself... Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Yep sure, i will go outside now and get some more pictures for you! Hope they come out ok be about 3 mins! Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Heres some pics (Excuse the frost, havent put my bike away yet) http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/Picture007.jpghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/Picture009.jpghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/Picture008.jpghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/Picture006-1.jpgHope thats what you was after, Any more pics i can take them! Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 spot on. ok, what you need to do is look at the underside of the switchgear on the throttle side, there are 2 screws. you can see one in the first picture. undo these, and the top of the switch will lift. move it over slightly (theres wires inside holding it in place,) and you'll see the white plastic of the throttle tube and the cable, follow the cable to where it goes through the switch gear, you want to dribble oil into here... work the throttle a few times to get some oil down the cable.. did this myslef this week.. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Ok, Thank you for pointing it out, I will do it with pictures tomorow! Thank you for your patients, Im really not clued up with this its all abit new to me, Is there anything else i can check to make sure it releases its revs properly? Quote
Guest Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 as long as the throttle snaps back, then you should be fine, it may just need a long run to clear some of the carbon from the engine/exhaust... a new plug wouldn't hurt especially in cold weather, Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 I fitted a new plug today a NGK ® had it ordered from Linco's (Local parts place) So i will do that tomorow with pictures and see how i get on! Thank you once again and i will update again tomorow! Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 So today i tried to do the WD40/Oil of the Throttle cable, I got a couple of pics sorry about the quality! You get the idea and shows willing http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/moped.jpgWith the 2 Screws Out of the housinghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/moped3.jpgInside the housing, and appyed WD40 to were the cable was going..So when i did that i kept working the throttle, and took it for a very quick ride up the road its still holding its REVS but i am going to have a drink and then go work it again, and see if its done the trick, Is there anything else i can Look for or try? Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 it may just need a good blatt to clear any carbon, give a good run down the bypass and see if that cures it.. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 Will do that about 2pm time, and come back with a report, May even take some pics from my little ride out! I notice when i turn it on it idles inbetween 10-20rpm but when iv gone down the road and opened the throttle fully it hangs at about 40-50rpm, and if i hold my brake in and rev it, sometimes the revs drop back down to about 15rpm! Will upload more about 3pm(Ish) with a report Quote
Guest Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 take it for a run, and if that doesn't solve it come back to me, might have a couple more ideas.. Quote
scott_20uk Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 Took it for a run, And no real improvment Got a couple of pictures to show you what i mean, http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/16122009051.jpgAs you can see its inbetween 40-50RPM and theres nobody on the throttle, and the throttle is back to its starting point.http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/16122009049.jpgAbout normal idle'ing a little bit high but thats what it goes down to after i hold the brake and give it a little rev.So im a little suck for ideas as to what to do next the problem is with it revving so high up it makes the scooter want to travel forward and this is not good if i forget to hold the brake! And some pictures from my out, Surfleet Church the Foundations have sunk and it now has a lean it dont really show you on the picture but attracts loads of people a year to see it, and a picture of the River Glen (Altho not very attractive, in the summer time it looks loads better and going fishing or a boat ride on it is mint) At the momment it looks that dirty you could walk on it, its also a little high due to the ammount of rain we have been having...http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/16122009050.jpghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/16122009048.jpghttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/scott_20uk/16122009047.jpg Quote
