I have been looking at a shoei x-spirit (not the x-spirit II), it fits me well and has the only helmet graphics I like. I know its more of a race helmet than a touring helmet. Some people have mentioned its quite noisey...is this true and does anyone have one who can comment on it. I dont intend to race, but will be using it for everyday riding. Am I making a mistake going for it?

Thanks

I cannot offer any comments on the x spirit .. however I do have a Shoei Raid ... and thats the quietest lid I have ever owned. That aside, if you wear earplugs I'm sure it is unlikely to be unbearable.

On the other hand, if it fits you well, thats the most imprtant thing :thumb:

Question of personal choice.

I have an RX7-RR and a Corsair, both 'race' helmets and a Multitech 'touring' helmet.

I wear ear plugs so noise isn't an issue.

Air flow depends on vents so cooler helmets can be noisier and can those with fins and spoilers (which make them look good!)

Tour helmets tend to be less flash in respect of bits on them hence potentially quieter.

Personal choice though, and a good fit is better than a quiet lid

a good fit, should also make for a quieter lid,

and earplugs are essential..

I have only just got my license and have just bought a thundercat. So most of this stuff is all new to me!

When you say essential, do you mean essential for this helmet or all helmets?

Are ear plugs not a hastle?

Thanks

If it fits you well then I wouldnt be put off by anything else. There is nothing worse than having a helmet that doesnt fit properly. Youll be wanting to stop every 5 seconds and take it off! I have the XR1000 (model down) and it's perfectly bearable noise wise. Plus I dont wear earplugs...which I should. Everyone feel free to tell me off

Matt, seriously mate ... I have lost quite a bit of hearing. I am 34. If I sit in a pub or a restaurant I cannot hear the conversation of people across the table.
