choppedminx Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 HiHave just bought a new battery for my sons moped, comes dry with acid pack - I'm ok with filling, but the battery will need an initial charge. My question: Is it OK to charge with a car battery charger? I have read somewhere that it will charge too high, is that so?I have attached pic's of battery and charger if that helps. Thanks in advance.Nickhttp://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae43/minstermadness/battery/R0017680.jpghttp://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae43/minstermadness/battery/R0017681.jpg Quote
Guest Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) I believe you need a bike charger due to the charging rate... see if any of the internet sellers have any deals going on, Hein Gericke, M&P, theFastOne, Busters etc.....that charger charges at 20amps an hour, you have a 4 amp battery, simple math... bike chargers charge at a much lower rate, generally work on 20% of battery amps for the charge rate/hour... cyberwolf Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 a car charger well knacker your battery in or cook it Quote
Phill_vtr Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 you sure it needs charging? I normally add the acid and leave for ten minutes and it's fine. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though Quote
NearOn Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I used my mates car charger on my bike battery and been fine since did that. It was a 6v/12v charger, but dont think was 20amps charger. Think was lesser, if my memory is right the bike ones are 6 amps i think? Am sure someone will correct me hehe Quote

rennie Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 just put it on, bump start bike, run for a while to charge should be fine!you should not use a standard car charger too many amps!mine has a switch on though especially for bikes Quote
