Guest Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Apologies if this has been posted before, I searched to no avail.I've just bought a cream Vespa and am looking for a open face helmet in the £50 region as this is all I can afford. I know to try them on before I buy. I have a couple of questions and again I'm sorry if they are obvious ones:1) Obviously more expensive helmets are better quality, but will I still get something decent for £50?2) can anyone make any recommendations. The nicest one i've found so far is http://www.helmetsuperstore.co.uk/Arash ... AP3I3.aspx and I've been looking all day!!Thanks a lot for all your help Quote
Susieque Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hi there Dunno much about open face helmets but yeah - it is possible to get a helmet for £50 ish, on special somewhere maybe. Just make sure you check for the gold approved safety mark though! Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 its EC approved so meets the safety mark, as mentioned fit is most important, and an open face offers very little chin protection in the vent of a spill. if you can stretch to it I would go for the AGV below in the advert £79.99 Quote
Gavskin Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 well done on buying a vespa open face lids may look cool but life with less teeth is it worth the risk imho i would save a bit more or borrow some cash to get a better helmet.......you only have one head Quote
rennie Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 hello say hello in the newbies sectionif you shop around you'll find what you wantfit is most important! Quote

Just make sure you check for the gold approved safety mark though! The ACU gold mark is worthless. What is important is that it conforms to BS6658-85 (old standard) or the current EC22/05 which all helmets sold in the UK have to comply with.It is not about how much you spend it is about what fits you right, and the more expensive helmets are not always better quality. chiz Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 That's right, the three helmets I've bought (1 for daily use, 1 spare and 1 for my girlfriend) were all £200+ and none of them carry an ACU mark. They do, however, satisfy EC22/05.This article gives a bit of an insight into what an ACU sticker means (or how little it means as it seems).http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle- ... ticker.htm Quote
