Boro Jake Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 my new bikes only done 600 miles (09 plate) and sometimes when i drop quickly to first gear the drops very heavy.bikes a yamaha ybr 125 Quote
Guest Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 You mean when u drop into first it engine breaks a lot?Or like, while the clutch is still in, you hear it really clunk? If its the first one, thats just normal engine breaking as first gear doesn't have much range, its just a setting off gear.If the second, also normal, its just cos the wheel is moving faster which means the front sprocket will be moving faster than it should for first gear.Thats my understanding of it anyway Quote

rennie Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I'm struggling to understand the problem! what do you mean by drop?you shouldn't be trying to get into first till you've virtually stopped!and you certainly shouldn't be "dropping" the clutch once you've done it! Quote
Boro Jake Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 it drops heavy when rhe clutch is in Quote
Guest Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I know what he means (i think), its just that "heavy clunk" that happens when you go into first at a higher speed (with clutch still in).Don't worry about it mate All bikes do that. Make sure your chain is nice and well adjusted though Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 if its the same clunk you get going from neutral to first its ok. are you in middlesbrough ? Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 We all get it when in netural to first, i thought mine was quite a loud clunk but compared to some bikes i've heard its not And i cant understand why you go in to first when travelling at higher speeds, i usually never go in to first if travelling over 10mph (but this is a bigger bike) on the YBR it was rare if i was in second most of the time, it has very short gears Quote
