Si 2the Mon Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Well, I got my cbr 600 the other day after collecting it from nottingham and driving it home in a van, tried starting the bike up for the first time tonight and the engine wont start. Now it worked on sunday when I went to view the bike and all was fine I turn the immobiliser off, switch the ignition on and the red switch thingy, and when I go to press the starter button I just here a spark/winding noise whilst i'm holding the button down, as if the starter motor is struggling to get going.I immediately rang my uncle who knows alot about bikes, he came round and tried getting it going but to no avail. He said it could most likely be the battery is near dead (not dead because the electrics and lights work but did seem to fade quite quickly) might not have enough power to get the start motor solenoid fully moving? so i've spent tonight taking the battery out and going to take it to the garage to get charged. I really do hope its just the battery was low because the bike wasn't used in winter, even though it started fine on sunday when I went to view it? or the alarm/immobilsier has drained the battery? Guest Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Yes could very well be the battery mate. It is a common problem for all bikes, the cold weather does kill the battery. If it works after charging, happy days. I'd personally buy a new one though. And invest in something like an Optimate. If you haven't already of course Quote
Guest Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) I'd go with the battery as well, always start with the basics and cheapest option, you could try bump starting it, but i would wait till midday when its warmer... you did hear it running....?if so it has to be battery or starter /relay related.. If you haven't already of course Twice my battery died, and twice my optimate has resurrected it! (this was due to a short , not a crappy battery) Reminds me, i should charge it again. Quote
Si 2the Mon Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Thank you for the positive words lads, and Frankie, yes I did hear it running in all its glory when I went to go view the bike before purchasing, and that was less than a week ago. The batteries out now so i'll take it in to the garage tomorrow if i get time It really does sound like the battery. The happened to me in Jan when my new bike was delivered. The Delivery guy started it do demo the controls, and I pushed it around the back of the house. 4hrs later I tried it and no go at all . . . It was trying to start the first couple of times, then would just click. Lights and control panel still lit up though. Luckily I had bought an optimizer at the same time, so I connected it up and sure enough it was very low, charged for an hour, and tried again. Bike started first time Then had to charge it for about 12hrs to get it back to full health, and its been fine since.Good luck Quote
TC Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Ref :- The RED thingy switch, Its the Kill switch to turn off the engine in an emergency. Are you sure you had this in the right position. All your electrics will work (Lights fuel pump etc) but the engine wont start. But if its trying to turn over it proberly is the battery Quote
