Toby_Smith Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Hi guys,Well, trying to get an engine bolt out today to adjust my fairing mount I managed to snap it!It doesnt go all the way through the engine, it screws directly into the engine so I can't tap it out from the other side. The point it which it has snapped is pretty much flush with the engine, so no chance at getting any mole grips on it.Any ideas which someone with limited technical (me) could carry out to get the bugger out and replace it?Failing that, anyone in the manchester area an expert on removing knackered bolts?Cheers guys,Toby Quote
Murray Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Very carefully put a punch mark in the centre of the stud, then taking a small sharp drill bit carefully drill through the centre of the snapped bolt. Then use a slightly larger drill bit and enlarge the hole. Then using a stud extractor screw it into the drilling and using plenty of heat/penetrating fluid slowly tighten the extractor into the snapped stud and if everything goes to plan it should come out. Toby_Smith Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 Thanks for your reply murray. I think I may have to get someone out to sort it, really dont trust myself to do that without damaging it more! Quote
Lumor_uk Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Had similar on exhaust manifold of a car, local engineer removed 2 of the bolts and fitted new ones for £40. He's local cash in hand job though. Quote
