Guest Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Looking at getting either some kelvar jeans or textile trousers, i'm only a fairweather rider, very rare i'm out on the bike in the winter months,or rain if i can help it. Looking on Ebay and there seems to be a lot of good priced stuff from Australian Biker Gear ??. Anyone had a views on this gear, one of the reasons i'm looking at them is the large sizes they offer and the price, been to our local shops and they all seem to think bike riders are young and slim..Grrrrr,i'm not in any way or form. Local Hein Gericke stocks sizes, but way to expensive. Any views appreciated.....Thanks Quote
Guest Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Hey denwyn, pop into newbies and say hi As for gear .... I cannot comment on Austraian Biker gear, I can however vouch for HG stuff, it is quality and lasts and does what it says on the tin. Quote
MWillow Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Have you tried making an offer in Hein Gericke? I'm sure they will do you a deal.I've just got a great deal on an Arai Chaser lid and Arlen Ness 2 piece leathers Quote

LuciferJonny Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I brought a textile jacket from the australian bike gear. Cost 50 quid, been through a low speed crash and didnt do any damage to it or me , however it isnt waterproof, so get what you pay for in the end. Had no problems though. Quote
Pete Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I very nearly bought a leather jacket off the Australian bike gear place a couple of years ago. I didn't go through with it because I wanted to collect and he said they're based in Cardiff on the docks, certainly not available to general public. Fair enough really, just didn't suit me. He seemed like a decent guy and all feedback was good as I seem to remember.I can also vouch for Hein Gericke gear. I've had an off at about 40/50mph in my gear and I'm still happily using it. It's slightly scuffed up but the seams haven't budged and you wouldn't know it'd been involved in an accident unless I pointed it out! All my gear is now Hein Gericke, I actually do trust it with my life! About the unpleasant atmosphere in HG stores, I get that too. HG Birmingham isn't a happy place for me, they seem to be on you as soon as you walk in the door, and when you say "no thanks, I'm just looking" you can still feel their presence, even if it's seeing them watching you out of the corner of your eye! I do get my oil from there though, and try gear on before I find it cheaper on ebay! Quote
Guest Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I got some of their summer gloves, good quality, good steel knuckles/finger protection... Only cost me £20 too. But cant recommend anything else, gloves are all i tried. Quote

You have hit the nail on the head there, felt under pressure from when i walked in,really hacked me off when he asked what bike i rode so i chose the right style clothing,i said i was just looking at the moment, but was asked three time while i was there if i needed any help.....I Know there trained to do this, and its there job...But can't they see not everyone likes it......I know i will never go into my branch again Quote

Guest Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Get yourself to the Chester HG store where you will be treated as an old friend - and you can help yourself to a coffee as you browse. Quote

Mightycaz Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Yeah, I'd quite happily buy all of my stuff from HG in Chester, In fact, I did!!The manager in there is a nice guy, When my Mrs went to get a helmet he came over and did his little spheil about how they are supposed to fit then said "if you need anything ask".Also when the stiching went on my jacket he lent me his own jacket to use while he sent mine away! Guest Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 There are really a lot you can find in ebay if you are just so patient in search all the stuff that you need for your bike. Quote

Yes i agree with you,i think i wlll get the rest of what i need from Ebay, only worry is sizing, not having found much to fit in the shops except the odd pair in HG,and since when do XXXL trousers equate to a 38 or 40 inch waist, nothing seems standard when it comes to bike gear. Ebay does seem the best route though, and i will just have to ask the sizes in inches and trust the sellers. Quote
Guest Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 i had to buy 5XL gear :/ When im only a 2XL in normal clothes. Quote

Commanda Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I've not bought anything from Australian Biker Gear, but I got a pair of Roadmasters Kevlar jeans from ebay. They just feel like fashion jeans which happen to have some kevlar panels sewn inside them. The fabric doesn't seem particularly strong, so I typically wear them under another pair of jeans just on the off chance that this might help in the event of a slider. The biggest problem with them though is that the fit makes them sit as hipsters, which with my build, would have me showing excessive backside on an almost constant basis. Has anybody tried these and actually had them tested on the street so to speak?. Quote
asharin Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Not roadmasters, but I have a pair of Mohar Kevlar jeans, I had an off at 30mph and bashed my right knee on the ground and slid a bit. I had minor friction burns on my Knee, and I really do mean minor only noticed when the mrs pointed it out to me later, and bruised the same knee (which hurt a little for a couple of days) The jeans themselves stood up well with no fraying and no visible damage aside from a slight scuffmark on the knee, still wearing them today (been washed a few times since obviously!)Wouldn't want to crash in them over 30mph, and not going to be all that effective if a car hits you!
