Regarding M.O.T

Recommended Posts

My M.O.T is due is 1st July, as it the tax. I'd rather not do both at the same time... And the M.O.T is cheaper lol.

If i was to do my M.O.T now, or next month (more likely) and it fails, would i still be able to ride until my original M.O.T runs out?

IIRC you can only get your MOT done about 1 month before its due date?

Posted

IIRC you can MOT your vehicle 1 month before its due but if it fails its treated as if it was due and you must sort it out.

I may be wrong though so its probably best for you to check out the direct.gov website :)

Just don't go out this weekend... that'll easily pay for TAX or MOT :)

Hah, unfortunately i never have the cash to go out! My money goes on petrol for riding xD

Are you sure about mot's am sure you can have one done anytime before it runs out, my blade had too one run out in november( orighinal date) one in january( from when it was mot'd when I bought it) think I got it done begining of october!

Posted

you can have it done anytime! but, if it fails, it wipes out any time you have left!

If it's unroadworthy it's unroadworthy end of!

If you take it for mot within the month before it's due,

and it passes, you get 13 months before it's due again.

yeh but you should know if its likely to fail and if your getting it done for financial reasoms you should deffo know if its likely to fail!

Posted

you can get it done anytime if it fails the old mot still stands till the date of expiry and thats from an mot tester!

An mot is only good for the time of test you can pull it out the mot station and something can go and make it un roadworthy!

You can mot one month before due date and get 13 months, check your mot it tells you the earliest date you can take it in

if your bike is going to fail, you need to sort out the fails before even putting it in for an MOT, if you get an MOT outside the dates for continuance you will have a 12 month ticket, from that date,

looking to do similar with mine, in Oct so the MOT isn't during the biking season, and gives me winter for any remedial work...

MOT Failure Question

A question that is often asked follows:

If car fails MOT is the old test certificate still valid until its expiry date?

Well the answer does not seem to be found on any of the government information about the MOT test, so we emailed VOSA with this question and this is their response:

"An MOT certificate is valid until its expiry date. However if your vehicle fails a test before this date and you do not rectify the defects then you are driving an unroadworthy vehicle which is an offence."

So to put this into context if your car fails the MOT due to illegal tyres then you are driving an unroadworthy vehicle, you were driving unroadworthy vehicle before the MOT, and you will be driving an unroadworthy vehicle until you get a new tyre. Therefore at anytime if caught you would be subject to a £2500 fine and 3 points per illegal tyre.

However once you get a new tyre your car is roadworthy and the old MOT is still valid until its expiry date, thus you can then drive your car again and get it retested to your timescale, with out worrying about driving without an MOT.

This is a very good reason to book your Mot early and give yourself plenty of time to book a retest if needed.

Yup as above you can MOT anytime (my dads an MOT tester)

I have asked the same question as in July my MOT, TAX AND INSURANCE is due! And I just about to buy my first property, so I'm skint!

Planning on getting my MOT done at the start of June, then only tax for 6 months then I carry it round to the other side of the year and do it for 12 then!

Bloody expensive eh! My hopefully should pass as its, its first one!

Only question I have if you don't mind me asking on your post Cobbz, is there a a few little chunks missing on the tyre (sounds worse than it is) all the way round, they aren't as deep at the tread and have had them checked and they are fine, should be gone after some miles, but would this fail on MOT? If so, best get riding!!!

Not totally sure about your question there Ruthie, as far as i know, the only rules/guidelines is the tread has to be at least 2mm deep at the centre of the tyre, and excessive wear on the tyre wall will be a fail. Maybe you could pop a pic up of what you mean :)

Yeah will do I'll get one done at the weekend! Sorry for the hijack! :D

ok so you take bike for mot 3 months early!

it fails! technically your old mot still stands,

But! all mot tests are logged on computer now!

They can prove you are knowingly riding an

unroadworthy bike!

I take my vehicles for early tests all the time

but only if I'm pretty damned sure they're going to pass.

Here we go, as promised! For those that haven't read the whole thread, I was asking if this would be a MOT failure! Thanks Cobbz for the hijack! :D

I'm thinking No! :(
