rac bolton Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Right guys maybe i should take this as a sign but i picked up my new bike n it was fine after stoping n starting a couple of times i went bak to start it again and in turning the ingition nothing no lights or anything else !so far have checked the battery and that is givin 12 volts outs checked the fuses they are also fine.tried to hot wire the bike so its not the ingition barrel.cleaned all the connecters that aslo hasn't helped.its a 1997 zxr400its currently in my kitchen with most of the bits off ,petrol tank, air box, and have no other ideas of what to check any thoughts would be good.on the plus side i do now know what is underneath all the stuff i usually see ! Ingah Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Because it's an old bike (i had a similar problem with my 1995 CB500), despite what you've said it would be wise to be 100% sure it wasn't the ignition switch/ignition wiring at fault before moving on to anything else. My problem gradually got worse (it was intermittent and slowly got more intermittent) and was fixed with a new ignition switch. The contacts at the back of the switch were failing. Quote
Guest Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 can you hot wire it? Yes, then its the ignition switch Quote
rac bolton Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 No it won't hot wire have also checked the earth wire and main fuse n its not any of them Quote
Guest Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 sounds like you havent got enough juice in the battery, especially if it was lots of stop/ starts, get it on charge... Quote
rac bolton Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Tried that didn't work so have ordered a new ignition barrel just so it can be totally elimited after that think i may have to get somebody to look at it for me Quote
rac bolton Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 not the kill switch no lights or anything are coming on and i have checked that. junction box could be on option Quote
TC Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Have you had a look at the 30amp fuse it is normally positioned away from but not to far from the rest of the fuses Quote
