Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Hi I recently bought a second hand Suzuki gsxr 600 (Corona). The previous owner had managed to fit various alarms and immobilisers etc. However there is one device which he says was fitted before he purchased the bike from someone else, which is a “black penny sized object” which needs to be put next to the key when starting ignition otherwise it will not start. The guy I bought it off had managed to loose the spare key and this device. So I only have one key and one “black penny object”. With only one set of keys and device I would like to purchase a spare set. The key is no problem a Suzuki dealer said they could cut me one, my problem is I need another “black penny object”. There are no markings or branding and no receipts that I can trace. I presume its some kind of immobiliser chip but I am new to bike security. Has anyone seen this or know what it is.http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz202/throughstream/IMG_1496.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz202/throughstream/IMG_1495.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz202/throughstream/IMG_1492p.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">Many thanks Dave Quote

Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 To me it sounds and looks like the fob to the immobiliser. Swipe it to "unlock" thus allowing the bike to be started.Would need to contact the manufacturer to get a new one id assume. Or just disable it. Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Have you tried starting the bike without this?Welcome to the forum btw Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Thanks for your reply, I am unable to contact manufacturer as I don't know who makes it. Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Yes it does not start without it, makes a wiring noise like electronics coming on when I turn ignition on with it nearby. Thanks Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 The other option is to remove the darn thing... and I suggest a competent individual attempts this if you are not sure Or to try and identify it, you need to find the 'other' bit..... Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Yes, I don't know if this helps but there is are rings around the ignition. The bike is stored at my gfs house so can't go have a look but don't think there where any markings on that. I got quoted £80 to remove the immobiliser as its hardwired. Would rather not pay to loose security tbh, if I can help it. Quote
BBTBB Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 The logbook should show who owned the bike previously? Quote
Guest Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Yea it was bought from a dealer, I tried them but they wouldn't tell me anything till I can show that the bikes in my name. I am waiting for the documents to come back. Quote
