Guest Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Recently ive come to a bit of a sensible stage (may not sound like it though) and really trying to hammer home, what riding with out gear can do. Firstly im going to be getting kevlar jeans to wear as normal jeans, that way when ever i go out i'll have basic leg protection (e.g. going in to town, work) where i wont wear leathers (for obvious reasons)Now im looking for similar but trainers/light weight boots. Id use these as normal trainers to use every day but atleast when ever i go out on the bike, again to town or work, ill have some basic protection. I feel this atleast would help save my legs and feet at a 30mph traffic spill. trouble is i haven't really found any, nor do i know if its worth the money! An example is these (i wont post link) : ALPINESTARS CR1 Goretex Motorcycle BootsAnyone think its a good idea/ worth the money?? They RRP at £100 (so double my really worn van's which desprately need replacing!)At least then im closer to the whole "all the gear all the time" thing, which i recon i need. I've regularly had a quick blast on the way back from work or college at hit 100mph, and i think to my self "im doing this in trainers and boots for christ's sake!".So tmbf, thoughts?? Quote
Guest Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 so if I wear Basic or low level protection, I can hope for a low level broken leg, awesome, thanks....I understand your wish to not have to get togged up, but in the event of a spill, you'll be glad you did... Quote
Guest Mr Miller Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Hein Gericke do some shorter, trainer style boots - I'm afraid I can't remember the name - but I was um'ing & ah'ing about getting some! I was also looking at the Draggin'/Red Route et al kevlar jeans......it's all money, isn't it?Plus, I am still hankering after a silver visor - seeing it's getting a bit sunnier, if not warmer!Ride safe, Chris! oldgreg01 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 If you do a google shopping search on them CR1's you can get them for £80. XPD also do some for around £115 which I'm considering. XPD are Spidi's. Quote
2fast2soon Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Thing with Draggin Jeans is that they don't come as standard with armour and that's the only thing that's going to stop the bones breaking. The kevlar will stop you needing skin grafts but if the surgeon's gone in through the front of your leg to try to piece together your knee then you'll have messed up legs anyway. I know you can get the armour for them but are you going to wear them with armour? Probably not... The ideal would be if Draggin or one of the other manufacturers used d3o as standard in their jeans. At the moment that's just wishful thinking.I think it was PhilGale that pointed out in another thread that Draggin Jeans don't even have 100% kevlar coverage, its only in the ass, down the side of your hips and across the knees, even the £200+ pair?!?I've never seen those CR1s before. I used to have the SMX2, they were good, just scared me a little by the amount your achilles is showing as they cut away down the back. Whenever I see someone get hurt round the back of the ankle though I wince, its my achilles heel Quote
BLACK BETTY Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I tried the cr1s in a local store, gr8 comfort and fit but i couldn't justify the price, but I wish I had, ended up with a cheaper medioka version if you can get em for £80 DO IT!! Quote
Guest Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Ok thanks. I think its always going to be better to wear full gear, but I know i wont when im just going in to town or work, and at least at 30mph ill have some protection. If i did ever go for a proper ride id fully kit up anyways..Hmm, i'll go down to my local store and see what they are like. Worst comes the worst i think i'll least get some kevlar jeans (in place of normal ones) to save my ass if i slip off going in to town! Quote
2fast2soon Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 if it comes down to normal jeans vs Draggin, then yeah I fully agree the Draggin ones are the way to go!just remember to try to land softly on your ass if you get into a crash! Quote
RiffmasterII Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Proper gear all the time, how long does it take you to get kitted up?? 10 minutes max? I just hope that one day you dont live to regret having a lazy attitude about it Quote
TC1474 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Thing with Draggin Jeans is that they don't come as standard with armour and that's the only thing that's going to stop the bones breaking. Really? Thats a new one. Armour will not stop you breaking a bone, it will simply disipate some of the shock, and in fact in some cases some armour can actually contribute to breaking bones. Quote
Guest Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Surely some armour is better than none though TC? Quote

Err, yeah really. The armour dissipates the shock across a wider area, takes a small amount of it but dissipates the rest. Sometimes this will stop the bones breaking, other times it won't (on those occasions, the bone would break with or without it). I didn't say it would definitely stop bones breaking. Unless you know of something else in draggin jeans or leather that prevents bones breaking Quote
j4ff Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Are you after this sort of thing?http://www.kneedraggers.com/image_storage/1/bd/1bdd0834d653bfabcc4e4e6a01958dfe_rough.jpghttp://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/Motosport/SB-DB-_is?wid=800 Quote
Guest Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Woops missed this yea similar, something i can wear as normal trainers basically. Just slip them on. and yes im lazy, but also want to keep comfortable. Ive walked around town in boots many times, and its not for me. Its bloody hot with a jacket, you slip on the slightest thing and your feet start to feel like they are on fire Quote

Commanda Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I wear TCX Jupiter boots which are only slightly higher than the trainer types shown here, but they've got some basic ankle protection. They've got a waterproof membrane and they're comfortable as hell. If you get the basic black colour, they don't have loud 'Look at me' type graphics so they can be worn anywhere. I've worn them and a pair of kevlar jeans all day in an office where if people had noticed they would have commented.I've also PM'd you a link to the MCN review on short boots which might give you a few pointers. Guest Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Not bought anything yet, servicing and stuff to pay for first then i will defo look in to it! Quote
Mightycaz Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I've got the amour in my draggin jeans, it comes out easily enough without having to take the pants off! good if you are out and about for the day and don't want to walk around fully kitted up! they are boot cut too so your boots can't be seen, except the shoe of it obviously...
