CBR starting issue

Hey

Ive got a CBR 600 F (2002) - only 18k on the clock.

I've been trying to get to the bottom of a starting issue i have with the bike when its warm. I posted on another forum last week but every logical suggestion they've had hasnt fixed it so wondered if there was any other ideas.

I can bump start it no probs but if I do a few short journeys it wont fire up again, its almost like the battery is flat (its a new battery). - tested, charging perectly. Its not discharging at all as when its struggles to start after a few short journeys ive tested it and its always been fully charged.

I went through and cleaned all wire connections and replaced starter relay as it was pretty corroded anyway but didn’t make any difference, new starter motor, checked ground etc.

The dash also resets when it struggles to fire and drops to around 6v when starting when warm, from cold its at 13.2.

Someone suggested it could be the crank sensor, would this be worth looking at? Has anyone got any other ideas? Its driving me potty now!

Cheers

did ya do that test whilst it was warm? Rectifiers do not perform well when warm, hence all the fins on them ....

If its on its way out, it could be an intermittant fault...

You say in your first post ... you checked and it isn't discharging.

How are you testing this?

Secondly, do you use something like an optimate?

Thirdly, does the bike have an alarm, or other drain on the power?

When its come to the point that it wont start up ive whipped it out and tried the battery charger on it, its always been virtually full charged or is with minutes.

No ii dont have an optimate im afraid.

No alarm, but it has the Hiss imobiliser on it.

Thanks

Where did you hear about the crank sensor? If memory serves, if that fails, thats it ... it won't start, full stop.

My gut keeps telling me this is a battery/charging related problem...

Has your bike got an automatic choke?

I am rubbing my chin in a thoughtful manner .....

It was a suggestion from a guy that works for Honda.

I'm popping to get the battery tested in about an hour at the place i got it just in case.

Yep its got an auto choke.

When i replaced the starter it was covered in carbon, another suggestion was to look at the starter clutch?

Yeah i'm lost with it. who knows....

Cheers
