Ingah Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I'm planning to start using my 125 to get to work sometimes (when it's fixed...), and i want to park it on the road right outside of the shop (it can be easily seen from the counter - the road is literally 4/5m away from the counter including pavement and there's almost always someone there). I figured i'm best putting a cheap alarm/immobiliser on it (not a certified system, just something to make a noise if it's moved). I want it all as convenient as possible, but i don't feel that an easily disabled alarm alone is enough actual security, so i want to combine this with some convenient physical security, to totally prevent joyriding, and make the professionals jog on to an easier target.I was wondering if anyone has come across any alternatives to the traditional chain/cable through a wheel security (i want to avoid the dirty hands as i work with food) - something else i can instead use to prevent my wheel(s) being turned without permission (or at least ridden away!). And i can't use a disc lock because i have dual drums (and a bad memory i can't trust )For example, something like Grip-Lock initially seemed good (as demonstrated here: .grip-lock.com/Grip-Locks/ ). However, not only is too expensive for what it is (£45!!), it's a little *too* easy to bypass, and the reviews aren't all great as it can jam on, and apparently be picked / hammered off, all too easily. So anything else? (for example, i spotted a motorcycle clamp, but it's far too bulky and expensive).Maybe i'm looking for something that doesn't exist (hence why i'm asking, because i can't think of anything else) - i just want a low faff (and cheap - don't see the need to spend much money for something that's not even going to prevent the bike being lifted) solution, for situations like this, when i don't want to bring along my Almax chain and lock it up to the nearest lamppost a couple of streets away via the frame Quote
TC Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 (i want to avoid the dirty hands as i work with food) : Big lock and chain is the best deterent.Just wash your hands when you get to work. (As i'm sure you do anyway) Quote
Guest Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 how about a big U-Lock, bungee it to the seat to carry it around, and slot it between the forks..to lock the front wheel.and i have a grip lock, never had a problem, and still have my bike (s) Quote
2fast2soon Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Just wash your hands when you get to work. The simple solutions are always the best! EDIT: or keep your bike gloves on while you lock it up Quote
