Interesting VIdeo ;)

So.. well mounted camera how did you Do it ?

As regarding lost footage,I found the same and realised when I swiched the camera on I was switching it off streight afterwards as there is some delay on the switch,so also lost alot of footage !

Camera mounted on my Left Indicator Today for a bit of BIKECAM action and Found when mounted on the Bike there is alot of wavy Vibration In the video that was not there when helmet mounted .

Went to the local Bike meet to try it out and one of the Bikers got wasted on the roundabout just as I got to it so I decided to call it a day For now :!:

You're stark raving mad...... This is why bikers wear helmets and ride alone!

Feel free to share the fun footage. We should set up a tmbf group.

I've been informed I ride, go-kart and drive like a girl. tbh, I think the misses is just dangerous.

I clipped it onto the nose guard inside the helmet, the visor didn't close all the way but as the weather was dry and warm it didn't bother me. As its a solid clip there is no protection from shocks so clipping it directly onto the bike might be a no no..

Hope the biker who got "wasted" is ok.

Sorry It was a generic term as I play Gta Alot

I saw the biker leave the meet with a pillion and I was just a minute behind and next thing there is someone under a blanket on the roundabout and bike bits everywhere but its a main roundabout so got sent down a side road so Don't know the outcome.

I was in my Jeans and Trainers which is unusual for me So I Suddenly got the erge to go home and tuck my bike away.

Maby I will try putting some rubber between the indicator and the camera to stop the shock a bit

Hiya,

Erm, you may feel that it's off-topic, but bear with me: Android mobile 'phone. Perdy good quality 5 mp camera - still & video. Best spec. to-date is the HTC Desire, but there are (or soon will be) 100's of Android 'phones on the market and the Desire kicked the I-Phone of the number 1 spot.

There are loads of apps related to motoring: Google maps sat-nav, locate your vehicle via GPS location (parked-up in a mass of other vehicles?), blue-tooth (for sound / hands-free), take video and upload it to YouTube in one button click, locate nearest petrol station etc. etc.

How about an app that records 30 seconds (or whatever you set) of footage. If you have a crash in that 30 seconds - it has it stored, if no crash - it dumps it (to save space, as video is storage hungry). It does this via it's G-Sensor e.g. "whoa - we stopped perdy damned quick there - I'll keep that bit of footage).

That tool was introduced to help prove blame in the event of a crash.

Thousands of useful apps, and Android is soon to beat Apple on the number of apps it has too.

Why pay £200 for a dedicated camera when you get everything for the same price in an HTC Desire.

I have mine on a monthly data / phone contract with Orange at £20 / month.

Motorcycle 'phone mounts are pretty standard now also.

Just an idea, but I'll test the video quality, upload it to YouTube and let you judge.

I'd considered this but where to get a secure mount which will actually focus at the right rather than my ugly mug - or worse, the speedo

Hi TeamMCS,

Sorry, but you said "... focus at the right...", and I'm going to assume that you mean "focus at the right angle" rather than "..focus to the right."

I think the first thing is: will the quality be good enough for what you guys want - even if the angle is correct?. If so - then the angle is simple engineering (goose-neck, static, swivel attachments are all plastic and can be easily 'tweaked' - no special tools required).

I think that the swivel would be good - the camera is always 'vertical' , however, being a noobie (please read my intro) - I've no real idea of the effects that you want in the end video.

Maybe you'd want the effect of going through steep chicanes in the video - rather than the camera always being vertical - regardless of the angle of the bike?

For standard 'road-use', I think that a 'thru-windscreen' location would be ideal, especially for sat-nav etc. For racing, then a goose-neck attachment would probably be better, although the direct attachment TO the hand-set itself could be either swivel or set.

Remember - for popular mobiles nowadays - there are specific moulded plastic hand-set 'cases' (buy it once - use it with different vehicle attachment methods such as goose-neck, angle-poise, extendable / adjustable etc). Generally such holders + case are max £25-ish.

I had a Krusell leather 'swivel' case for one of my Androids. It came with an extra u-shaped plastic 'hanger' (for the side of a monitor etc). I filed slots in the back of this that slid into a goose-neck holder. I did this so that I didn't need to take my 'phone out of it's leather case in order to mount it in my car.

Just so happens that it swivelled when taking corners, which on a bike would 'dampen' the angle when steeply cornering.

If you always want it aiming in the direction you are travelling (look at speed-cop videos lol - they fail big-time) - then the attachment needs to be on the forks or handle-bars (somehow). This ain't a major engineering problem.

I CAN see issues with chit hitting the camera lense however - including rain. That I'm afraid I'm not gonna try and tackle - for that you'll need to spend a few grand to overcome (reel of celluloid continually feeding - as in grand prix lol?).

BB3,

O.K. roger and out.

I help procure fast-jet parts, and I meet jet pilots - you got the terminology, accent and step-by-step procedure descriptions spot-on (rah-rah).

Which RAF base you stationed at? My son is training for fast-jets - RN and wants some pointers.
