hi,

i have a suzuki gz 125 hs (marauder) and have been searching for how to de-restrict it.

ive been told many ways it is restricted but dont know which is right so im here to see what people say.

ive also been told it isnt restricted because its a 4 stroke yet i have seen restricted 4 strokes before.

most 4 stroke 125's are built to meet the laws

so therefore are not restricted but are designed to be 12/14 bhp.

The marauder is a cruiser type bike I think?

I'd be very surprised if it's restricted!

You might gain a few mph with a different plug,

different air filter, different exhaust etc.

It's really not the worth the effort or expense though!

If you need more power/speed pass your test and get a bigger bike

By the way!, welcome to TMBF  please say hello in the newbies section

thanks :D

ye i keep hearing people say get a bigger bike yet its easier said than done as i have failed the theor 3 times now and my score keeps getting worse :(

but ive also heard people say its a washer in the carb, in the air filter somewhere or in the exhaust

restricted bikes often have washers in the carbs!

remember! if you deristrict you are illegal! your insurance is invalid etc etc.

it's really not worth it!

I'm pretty sure yours won't be restricted but just built/designed to be the power

that it is.

ye it probly isnt but ill look anyway. im checking becuase im going on a rally this weekend and since im the slowest ill be leading so id like to get to 70 atleast. my bike usually gets to 60 and maybe 65 if its downhill ish (ive had 75 on steep downhills).

I would not encourage destricting before you have passed your test but

Pull off the airbox and look through the carbs with a torch and with the throttle open.

You should be able to see if there is a restriction ie not full bore all the way through.

The restriction is normally between the carbs and inlet rubbers or even the rubbers themselves.

I dunno if they still use this method but there can be washers in the exhaust normally visable from the cylinder head end

thank you very much for your straight forward informative reply :D  its what ive been after

The worst derestriction i've done was a DT125 which had a washer in the exhaust half way down which meant cutting and rewelding after removing the washer, nowadays a new pipe would maybe be cheaper
