I'm only a learner but I believe you've got to do the theory before you can do any of the practical tests. I'd say it would give you better chances of passing if you were to have some lessons before doing a Mod1 (I plan to do this), so you know exactly what is required of you, even if you think you are an accomplished rider. The Mod1 test is taken at certain approved sites (I believe) and as for the Mod 2 I have no idea, best to get this info off the DSA.

Do your theory now (get it out the way) and then have lessons with a good trainer for the mod 1 and 2. Some people do the tests without training but i think its always a good thing to have a bit of training first, and the instructor normally sets up a mock mod 1 site so you can practice and you know what to expect on the day, you shouldnt need much training for that bit and maybe a couple of days for mod 2.

Mod 1 is carried out on a designated off road test area, where you will do all the manouvers and mod 2 is carried out on the roads.

Go onto youtube and search for mod 1 bike test to see whats involved.

All the best.

need to do theory test first. Then get some practice in. I passed my tests without any lessons just day to day riding through town.

To practice the mod 1 stuff I went to a quiet car park at the weekend and just tried wheeling my bike between bays, U-turn between two bays and then practice emergency stop at a slowish speed.

As already said you need to do the theory before Mod 1 and 2. In Barrow the test centre is on duke street near the roundabout.

PM 2fast, he has a great DVD with all the questions and hazard avoidance videos on. I'm sure he will lend it if he still has it. Best to book the test now for in a few weeks to focus the mind. Got to get the learning in then.

The nearest mod 1 centre is in blackburn.

You can see the u turn lines and just and so make out the cones.

West pennine training school in Blackburn are pretty good. Top Gear school of motoring in Barrow do Bike training now too. Not sure if you can do mod 2 test in Barrow but I'm sure they will know.

Youtube is great for video's of mod 1. There's even one where the guy had a helmet cam on so you can hear what the examiner is saying.

If you can get hold of some cones there is a diagram of the mod 1 circuit layout, including measurements.
