Just washed my bike going to wax it soon. after that is it ok to put some wd40 on the forks, swingarms etc to stop rust/corrosion ?

Yes it is .. but other, more specific products are available...


Scottoiler FS365, ACF50 etc


WD40 is a penetrating oil, better suited to this task than as a corrosion inhibitor.

Wd40 is not good on rubber, Its causes it to perish-try spraying a rubber band and hang it up overnight.

Gt85 very good on forks and helps with stiction aswell.

afc50 etc for the engine etc

Or you can use the el cheapo method i use .


1 large pot of Vaseline

1 paint brush


slap it all over

a good degrease come spring time and it's still looking as good as new

A word of warning the Vaseline collects a lot of dirt. so this method is no good if you are anal about such things :lol:

Getting both of those words into a post where your not talking about your sexual habbits is impressive .....

I use WD40 for protecting my bike from rust, does a pretty good job, there's a couple of spots sprung up over last winter but nothing major, mainly spots I probably missed with the WD40.


Watch you don't get it on the brakes or rubber parts though!
