right, got my second hand carbs through today for my xj 600. i swapped over carb 3, due to the pilot screw being knackered. all back together, back on the bike....nothing. Fuel appears to be getting to the carbs but it isnt firing. I've taken the plugs out and they dont smell of fuel. Any ideas?

I imagine best bet is to prime the system by using something to pull fuel through. I don't have enough experience with carbs, need to wait for someone who does...

Sounds like a ballache mate :(

Trust me the modern (fuel injection I mean) ones are too when they go wrong lol

Phew, Got it working with just manually filling up the carbs. But, the revs are through the roof now. I've unscrewed the throttle stop screw out as far as it will go, Not using the choke but its still at 3k revs from cold. Any suggestions?

Just a few thoughts- Is your fuel tank breather pipe clear? ie make sure no vacumn in tank..... open tank cap to make sure and try again with it opened... if you turn it over without the plug in, does it emit fuel vapour from cylinder?

is the throtle cable snaging somewhere if you look down at carbs and operate throttle is the unit the cables sit in operating properly, when throttle closed and revving at 3000 can you push the cable unit on carb down by hand, also its not uncommon for a bike to rev at 3000 when on full choke

Yup, The cables are sitting fine. I can move the mechanism by hand aswell. If it was on full choke i wouldnt be bothered, But thats it with no choke...oops lol

you might have to take carbs off again and check how the butterflies are sitting in the carbs and then operate linkage by hand see if they all moving the same

Roger....I'll have a look the next time im down at the garage :)
