illvibetip Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 last time i had a look in when it was dry, i noticed a bit of rust on the inside of the tank. is this a big problem?chaars Quote
Martyc Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 If it gets worse it could start flaking and blocking your fuel system-best seen to sooner rather than later or you could be risking a breakdown (mechanically first, then mentally when you can't get your pride and joy to move and have to fork out to fix it) Quote
illvibetip Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 cheers. Its just a wee bit. It seems to be ok as long as i dont leave it standing too long. Ill get it checked anyhow.thanks Quote
Juggler Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 May be worth considering keeping the bike tank topped up, during periods of low use, to prevent this in future. Best of luck getting it your pride back into shape. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 To clear rust:-1. remove tank from bike and remove petrol fittings (including the any internals).2. Put small-sized gravel into tank and shake like the devil for about 5 minutes.3. Empty and flush through with clean water.4. Add some 'rust cure' (there are various makes) and 'slosh around' until complete inside of tank is coated.5. Allow to thoroughly dry.6. rebuild, refit and re-fill tank.If the rust problem is very bad, either replace the tank or, use a tank sealing kit (not cheap).Good luck, Quote
oslin06 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I agree with the above, but as said it is only any good for light rust and make sure it is cleaned out properly. Oh and very small gravel, pea shingle type not flintKeith Quote
illvibetip Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 thanks for all the replies. its not too bad at the moment so ill try to keep it topped up. if it gets any worse, ill give it a clean.cheers Quote
