Guest Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hi once again i am stuck and in need of help replaced my clutch friction plates on my bike. been doing it since thursday just kept getting problem after problem (me and my inexpereince)anyway i only replaced the friction plates as the springs and steel plates looked ok. after replacing the plates i bolted evreything back up and added engine oil. took the bike out and instantly noticed how smooth the clutch was and how nice the bike felt generaly. it seeed faster probably not done 2 miles and clutch started to snag and then it slipped out completly. shocked i was. the same problem clutch clip in the exact same way as though i had not changed anything.tonight i have noticed the clutch cable a bit too tight and the lever faily snappy. is the lever suppost to be snappy and sudden when realesed ?i also noticed the lever that the clutch cable connects to at the engine having next to no play in. before i had no play in but iv found out that i need to loosen of the clutch cable at the engine end to allow more play. over the past few weeks i have noticed it jump out of gear. i think it does this from 5th to 6th when i am crusing in 6th.iv got brand new engine oil in and a cleaned oil strainer. i cant think what else this could be other than the clutch cable being a bit tight ? Danny-B- Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (as said in chat)Im sure its because the cable being too tight is slipping the clutch, think of it like your constantly on the biting point, slipping because the cable is not allowing the clutch to fully engage.Easy enough to adjust the cable so its not as tight. Guest Hodgy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yep, sounds like the cable isn't adjust properly to me too Quote
whitedevil Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 what bike is it? my cbr calls for 1-2cm free play in the clutch cable Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 hi i loosend the cable today and it still slipped when i took it out. its really difficult to measure the freeplay. im sure i took it out with a fair bit of freeplay.when i loosen the cable of completly from the adjuster nuts by the cranckase cover there is play in the lever which the clutch cable attaches to. as i tighten it i loose this play in the lever and the only way to have this play there (which im told should be there) is by having the cable looser but then the clutch lever (on the handlebars) is full of play (example nearly half the lever has slack in) Quote
sparkeh9 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Maybe your clutch cable has been stretched beyond use? Quote
Guest Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 maybe it has but bikes not very old and i found out that these bikes does this a lot its due to the gearbox and you just have to give it some force when changing gear. what happens is when the gears are changed they dont mesh fully and as the revs increase it jumps out and you get a false neutrel.
