Guest Hodgy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I don't think that would be recognised by the insurance company. You need something that is 'Thatcham Approved' but obviously they are much more expensive Quote
mackemforever Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've currently got this:http://www.chainspeed.co.uk/products/*NEW*-XENA-XX14-Disc-Lock-Alarm-in-Stainless-Steel.htmlIt costs a bit but its pretty compact so it will easily fit in any small space under your seat, is thatcham approved and has a bloody loud alarm! We've had a few bikes stolen from work with those type of locks on Ruth. The police said the Thieve's put something like a small car jack in the 'U' bit then prise the lock apart Quote
techno Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I got an oxford one to satisfy the insurance company, think it was about £40. Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hmmmm, ok, thanks guys! Think the lock I have, like a cable chain, is oxford, just need to find the keys! Cheers muchly Quote

dwb Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Other than acting as a deterrent/stopping your bike being nicked (which is pretty damn important), don't assume you'll save much money on your insurance premium. When I insured my new bike, I asked how much I'd save if I had a Thatcham approved alarm fitted by the dealer. The answer, "nothing!".Still worth spending a few quid for peace of mind.I just leave mine in the front garden and do my best to disguise it.http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/9383/imgp0159i.jpg Quote

Guest Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Avoid any security from the oxford brand. Their chains can be cut in seconds, and their locks are worse than useless. Have a look at the vid "> A good tip, is to use a disc lock on the rear wheel aswell, it prevents two guys lifting the front wheel of the ground, and then pushing it to the van on the rear wheel. Roadtorque Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Thatcham approved disk lock & came out top in Ride Mag when tested against other makes,,http://www.twowheel.co.uk/motrax-vishas-disc-lock.html Quote
