What do people reckon to the GetOn campaign?

geton.co.uk

I first saw their stand at a show in Dunsfold last year and signed up with them. Did their taster session and ended up doing my CBT through the same place as a result. On a personal level, neither me or the missus would have looked twice at biking without them and I think it's a great idea.

However, the school I'm going to now say they liked the idea in principal but refused to sign up with GetOn since they didn't require you to show your licence or even have the provisional entitlement on it. Been lurking on here for a while and seen quite a few people talking about new bikers and potentially interested new bikers and no one's mentioned them. Are they shunned in polite society? Having admitted I used them should I now surrender membership? :)

Never heard of it before.

Sounds like another campaign so the government/official body can say we've tried that, and tick a box.

I think its a great idea :)

And I've just seen that the people I trained with are now doing it! :D

There is a certain place in my local area, that I had originally looked into doing my training/tests with and as I had no previous experience they 'strongly urged' me to do a taster session with them and they charged £70 for it!

Anything that encourages peoples to consider motorcycling as viable transport, is a good idea. In my opinion.

It hasn't had much press to be fair (in mainstream media I mean), but I have seen it suggested on here! Even by me!!!

Good idea I think, did it before i did my CBT to get a bit of experience first. Just trying to organise another one now i have a geared bike. Free lesson - im not complaining lol

It's not a Govt scheme, it's backed by the motorcycle industry - dealers, bike manufacturers and training schools.

It's not really had the publicity it deserves, though IIRC Honda have included the logo in some of their ads.

Excellent idea IMHO, the first step onto a bike is the hardest.

I thought the GetOn thing was all in a centre- like the first part of the CBT, so if you're not on the road you wouldn't need a licence :)

It was. Essentially we did about the first ½ of the off road section of CBT and we never left the car park. You don't need a licence for it and in some ways I approve of that, means you can have a go completely out the blue and then the instructor you do it with can talk you through the next steps to take, but the school I'm at now said that's why they didn't sign up. This was new year's day I was talking to them about it so don't remember the exact answer, can prod for more info if you care?

It was Get On, that got me on so to speak, I was always curious about biking and something I wanted to do, on a quick google search last October I found GetOn. Did the hours taster session, looking back now with me riding pillion on a 125 with a big instructor it must have looked comical.

We went to a quite car park and I rode around. It led to my CBT which let to my full bike licence in March of this year. So if I had not found the free hour with GetOn I may still have been just thinking about it.
