eastanglianbiker Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 get the best 2nd hand one you can find and any wires in it that have been cut if any use your loom to replace them Quote
redline Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 if you can get a diagram you best option may be to buy a load of wire - some soldering kit and redo it all. cheaper and you can circuit test the lot as you do it.shrink wrap it all and some trusty electrical tape should make a nice job of it.do one bit at a time and use new wires on each component, you will need to make sure you use a thick guage of wire for alternators / stators / regulator rectifiers etc Quote
Capitano Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 As above except heatshrink tends to go a bit brittle and can become inflexible. Where I've made one in the past I've wrapped the majority of the bunched wires together with self amalgamating tape. That also helps if you forget some vital wire inadvertently and end up adding it to the loom after you've "finished" ...allegedly...I wouldn't know about that though. Guest Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Yep, self amalagamating tape best bet. And like EAB said, breakers is probably best. I managed to source a decent replacement loom for my old 1977 Suzi off the 'bay. Quote
argentum40 Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 thanks for the input lads... problem is with making a new one is some of the plugs and fittings have been replaced with non standard ones which i have foudn out when i went to replace headlight bulb and the fitting is totally different.. same with side light bulb...second hand ones have usually been hacked as well so probs no better off than the one i have already... was hoping to find a NOS one but no such luck Quote
