argentum40 Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Guys i need some advice please.. I am busy goign through the wiring on the RS125DX as it has been butchered in a few places.. it became apparent that every bulb i checked was fried so i replaced a couple and sure enough they worked without the engine running..now a started the engine and within seconds 2 of the 3 bulbs popped and the 3rd one was very bright indeed which leads me to think theres far too much voltage reaching them...I dont know much about that side of electrics so can anyone help me and give me an idea as to why this is happening.. dodgy rectifyer or regulator?.. the rectifyer looks fairly new however the wiring too it is non standard..any ideas guys Quote
sparkeh9 Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I would say reg/rec, My bulbs kept popping (and boiling the battery ) on my GS125, new reg/rec and battery sorted it. But it did have standard wiring so could be something else? Quote
rennie Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 you need to measure the voltage!sounds like reg/rec to me butthey're expensive you need to be sure! Quote
argentum40 Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 have ordered one off the net costing only 10 inclusive of postage... after that all i can do is check the wiring... i seem to remember my old 77 rs100 had a lighting coil behind the left hand casing but dont think this one does as its not mentioned in the manual... i will check it out and see what voltage is being produced by the reg/rec and as its a 6v system what would you say should be the output voltage?about 8v max or more than that? thanks guys Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 does it not tell you in the manual what the max output should be but i think you are around the right voltage at 8v mid range revs Quote
argentum40 Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 it probably does EAB i just havent seen it.... funny thing is the reg/rec looks fairly new as its clean as a whistle... still wont know until the new one arrivesjust checked the manual and its not listed oh well nevermind will check to see what it puts out Quote
Chrissb6 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Make sure the battery is in good condition, a dead battery will cause the regulator to give out excess voltage and thus blow your bulbs Quote

rennie Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I have no experience of 6V electrics!I would think 8V would be a bit high Quote
