RedJ Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Hi there,I'd like to get into racing, but I'm a female and about to turn 19. I've never been on a track, of course I plan to do track days for a long time before I start trying to do it properly, but I don't know of any races anywhere in the country, or near me in Devon, and I don't know if I need licenses, or specific bikes or anything, to do it and I don't know if because I'm a female, I have to go to specific female races or what?Any information would be helpful as I'm hoping to research this to my best ability but I have no idea where to start. Guest philgale Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 lots of fast girls around dont let that put you off, jenny tinmouth past me at oulton and anglesey like i was stood still you will need to do an ACU license course with can be done in a day and then you can go racing. no specific bike as such but you need a bike that fits in the category you wanna face in, for instance no point getting a superstock spec bike if you wanna race stock class, or a fuel injection r6 if you wanna race pre injection class etc etc.cb500 would be a good start, good cheap bikes and you will learn to ride the bike properly. but before that do a load of track days, unless your fast group pace then i wouldnt bother racing, if you wanna win you need to be front end of fast group as a race is a different league. i know people who do track days and do say 1.53 round oulton but on race day will drop that instantly to sub 1.50.get on track soon, and get out lots you will get the pace if you want to. dont underestimate track tuition as well, people like mike "spike" edwards (raced today in the ducati 848 class at brands) or california superbike school, i know a guy who coaches with them and he really knows his stuff. he coaches a guy in dubia and the very next race dropped abotu 3 seconds off his PB and got on the podium.
