Stuno1 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Right, i took my 2006 c1 for a service and MOT on Thursday and assumed all was well. Had a decent ride on Thurday as well. Took the bike out today and as i was shifting about to join the A40 the chain popped off!Called out the RAC and was told the bolt that holds the wheel back to keep the chain tight and keep the wheel ligned up properly was not tightened properly so the chaine became slack and popped off. The RAC guy re-fitted the chain and i took it for a ride and all seems well apart from the fact that my carbon fibre rear hugger is pretty banged up! Not pleased about that.If anything the chain is now probably a little too tight. I am goign to call the guy to have him look over the bike again to make sure all is well and the chain is the right tension. The mechanic was recommended by a forum member and seemed like a top bloke. Mistakes can happen but i now have a fookeed rear hugger and need him to look at my bike again! What would you do?Stu Quote
Ash Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I would definetly talk to him, if he's a good bloke he will probably be horrified and it will probably remind him to double check his work in future. He may offer to replace the hugger, if not it's worth asking. Quote
megawatt Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Talk to him ??? I'd rip his bleedin head off!!!Two things keep the rear wheel in the correct place and hence the chain in the correct amount of slack. You adjust it with the adjusters, then you tighten the spindle nut, than you tighten the adjuster again. He got two things wrong!!! In my book that's unacceptable for a supposed mechanic! In future, do it yerself. It's pi$$ easy , will save you maney, you will learn summat and you life is in you hands not some underperforming wan&£rs!!!! Quote
Stuno1 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Yeah looked today. The RAC guy has over tightened it now though lol! Apparently it is suppose to move 1 inch up and down from the middle of the chain and it currently moved half that.I need to buy a spanner and adjust it.The guy was recommended by as lad on the kwak form. I will be calling him on Tuesday and see what he has to say. Stu Quote
megawatt Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I would demand another hugger at the very least. Remind him that the internet can work wonders for his reputation, good or bad??? Quote

Roadtorque Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 So the back wheel bolt usually has a locking split pin at the nut end ?????????? just wondering if yours was refitted Quote

cyberwolf Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 go see the garage that fix your bike if he dose not pay the full cost to fix the damage to the bike, you can make a claim of the garage for the damage done and any other cost,i had a prob with brakes on car and they said they fix them went out in it and crash as they didnt fecking work and as he wouldnt pay up im now putting claim in Quote
Stuno1 Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Will do mate. The rear hugger is worth a couple of hundred.Stu Quote
megawatt Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 This is why i take mine to a dealer and get it doneThis is why I do my own maintenance. I don't trust Dealers, so called mechanics or my mate's dad down the road that used to be a fitter. Do your own maintenance , then you are in control of your own destiny. Quote
cyberwolf Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 keep hold of the receipt, with out it you cant make a claim and always send copys off it Quote
polecat Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 This is why i take mine to a dealer and get it doneYeah Dealers never forget to do up the wheel nuts properly Quote

Stuno1 Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 Spoke to the mechanic today. He was really good about it (with obvious reason!) and without me asking said he will check over the bike and replace any damaged parts including the hugger free of charge. I think/hope that is the only issue. As long as the bike is all good and sorted I am happy. I had a lucky escape to be honest. Taking the bike in on Saturday so hopefully that will be the end of it.Stu Quote
