Two piece suit recommendations

Recommended Posts

can anyone recommend a leather two piece suit?

i've been looking at reviews online, and tried on a few in Hein Gericke at the weekend, but it would be good to hear some opinions from people on here of their own leathers.

i like the look of the arlen ness suits, and the RST razor jacket i tried on was nice (although i didn't try on the trousers).

alpinestars look great as well, but does the (much) higer price tag mean better quality? or are you paying more for the brand? As this is my first set of leathers (always worn textiles), any opinions would be welcome!

got a good budget to play around with, but would like to spend under £500. Don't need a back protector built in to the suit, as i wear a separate back protector.

thanks

i remember a few years back a £300 hein gericke suit getting miles higher score in a test then a £1800 alpinestars suit!!!!

its not all about the name on the suit or the price it is get looking for some reviews online

like i said in the other thread RST is well worth every penny :) as is hein gericke stuff

IMO the top end stuff is well over priced you could get a made to measure for about £600

Hein Gericke for me, Im an odd shape so couldnt get a 2 piece suit but with hg I found a jacket same size different cut that will zip to the trousers I bought as there both hg and there now 8 years old and being honest i think the trousers may need replacing soon there a little thin in the thigh area prob from rubbing the tank.

The jacket apart from one press stud is like new.

If your near Peterborough, get to the BMF and have a look. Some right bargains and some good kit. It may be last years model etc. but still some good stuff to be had.

Found a copy of a Ride magazine from last year and they reviewed 20 suits (2 piece), the hg suit came out on top, and the rst razor came in 5th! I think I'm going with one of those two brands, will keep you posted. (just out of interest, an alpinestars suit scored very low, especially on seam burst strength. It cost almost twice the price of the rst razor suit!)

The important part is fit. Many of the off-the-peg branded leathers are made in the same factory in Pakistan and then branded. So often you are getting the same quality leather, the same manufacturing process but you'll pay extra for the brand.

Having bought alpine stars it would be interesting to know which leathers were tested.

All the reviews i can find on the MotoGP ones seem top notch.

having said that you would not expect that from a branded set of leathers. Just shows you really need to do your research and not just buy the most expensive gear. Personally i always buy end of season stuff where i can. I saved £400 getting my gear :0)

from memory, i think it was the Alpinestars SP-1 two piece suit. I think it scored 7/20 for seam burst strength, which is where it was let down. The RST suit however, scored 20/20 for seam burst strength, joint first with the HG suit.

but, as with all reviews, how this reflects the performance of the gear in real world scenario's is anyone's guess.

I should point out that the Alpinestars/Dainese/whatever gear worn by motoGP riders and their ilk is made-to-measure and highest quality materials. The stuff you buy off-the-peg at the BMF show or wherever is not. Only the logos are the same.

RiDE tests have their flaws but they are pretty much the only organisation out there doing like-for-like testing for branded motorcycle gear. By all means, take these tests into account when buying your gear but fit is the most important aspect of your purchase.

I have a dianese leather two piece and the jeans are back again getting the stitching redone (under guarantee) for the second time (guarantee runs out next week)

They are ok (touchwood) Although I have been wearing my old textile HG whilst they are being fixed and they are still super comfy. I've had them for a couple of years and they weren't new when I got them.

update - bought the RST Razor jacket from HG at the weekend. Tried on a lot of jackets and this one was the best fit by far. Haven't bought the trousers yet as they didn't have my size, but will do so in the next few weeks.

too early to give a review as i've only worn it once so far!
