Stiff chain adjuster, which led to it snapping off, :@

Hi guys again....

Right so I hiked my bike up (kymco kr 125) and loosened the wheel nuts, and then proceeded to tighten the nut, it's the type which sticks out the swing-arm with a nut to loosen or tighten, so I try to tighten one side, it gets tight, then the other non-sprocket side, but the chain is still slack, with the bike still hiked I make the wheel turn slowly in first gear to see if things even out, but the chain just hardly changes, so I'm outside in the pooring rain getting pissed and trying to tighten the nut, it gets very stiff, I even out both sides to align the wheel using the markings just to make sure I'm not jamming the wheel bentwards (is that even a word?) then tighten and SNAP! the thing just snaps off, here I must stress that this ain't no cheap chinese tat, but a bike who's parent company is Honda,

I just slump on my bike in the wet, knowing my bike is inoperable until I get the part, so I immediately order it, Anyone know why this happened? I've done this before and it worked? But it's gotten loose very quickly (id say four weeks) which I dont think is normal,

Your advice is what I'm pending on guys, I can't survive without my bike, help!!!

I don't think it's the chain, the nut seemed very tight before it snapped, then again maybe it's the chain! Can a chain stretch and completely not be able to be adjusted?

The adjuster will pull the chain back as far as the closed end of the adjuster slot in the swingarm. If your chain won't tighten after that, it is either too long or knackered. Can you post some pix of both sides???

Well, to me, the spindle is at the back of the adjuster slots , so you can't tighten the chain. Also the chain is knackered. Try pulling the chain off the rear sprocket, straight back with the middle link. If it lifts off more than 3mm, get new chain AND sprockets. The front is knackered too. You may be able to repair the adjuster. Can you do a clear, focussed pic of the broken adjuster???

Ok the chain is knackered, but you know the sprocket, it looks fine, still sharp pointed and straight, I'll post some piccs now that it's not raining, thanks A LOT for your help, thanks

I know it's broken off mate! I want to see the bit inside that it's broken off so you can fix it!!! Have you tried pulling the chain straight back off the rear sprocket as I said earlier??? You have PM

Yes I have done that, it comes of by a few

Millimeteres

Also the bit it's come off is inside the swing arm, I have to take the wheel off and then screw it out,

I bought the whole thing as in the adjuster off eBay today I'll see if I can show you them pictures

Count your links and order a chain for your Make, model and year of bike. If chain pulls off that much, you probably need to replace sprockets at same time. The chain has probably destroyed the sprockets and It's cheaper to buy them with the chain. If you fit a new chain on old sprockets , your chain won't last as long. Could probably have repaired that adjuster rather than replacing it???

None of your pix show the teeth on the rear sprocket???

I'll show the sprocket picture shortly, thx

It's just that this bike has sucked every last penny from me, it got jacked 2 months ago, spent 600 quid cleaning the mess, though I think it's a lesson well deserved and learnt!

The parts on these are far and few between, though every Honda dealership has the parts, they charge me 40 quid for 1 indicator, so I'm dreading the bill of a chain & sprocket, come to think of it I feel I should sell up and get an aprilia rs 125, rather than keep dishing Out on a part every so often, it's only done 7k, it's the biggest 125cc around, any thoughts??

Oh god, the teeth on my sprocket are a gonner, seriously I thought it looked ok with the chain on, but out with the chain and there's chipped off teeth edges everywhere, oh NOOOO
