Boothy Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 As title, I am going to attempt to service it now as its 4600 miles since last one... So change the oil, air filter, oil filter... what else. Am going to pick up a Haynes manual so that would help but what else is there? And the other thing is a K&N air filter, the bike is restricted so what would the K&N filter do if I got one?Boothy. megawatt Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Well done for doing your chain. A k&n will flow more air than standard filter, so you will need bigger main jets and pilot screw adjusting. I would stick with standard. Quote
Ingah Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Grease your swingarm bearings, renew your fuel and coolant hoses, change the spark plug(s), adjust the carburettor syncronisation, bleed the brakes, renew brake master cylinder and caliper seals, change the front fork oil, and don't forget the ridiculously long list of things you should be checking too.Now get back to work! Guest akey Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Depends which K&N mate, there is one which is a standard replacement and while it lets the engine start to breath a little better it does not require any changes to the fueling unless you fit a full exhaust system (note not just an end can). The main advantage of the K&N is that its washable, so you dont have to buy a new filter every service.Mate if you get stuck at any point or you need some tools - give me a shout Quote
Guest Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 boothy have you not got a service list ? my manual tells me what needs doing and when Quote
Guest Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Wooohoooooo Nice one Chris! GT right check the haynes manual and it will give the service intervals and what needs doing. Quote
Guest Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 i dont own a haynes manual ruthie honda manual good enough for me Quote
Fozzie Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 i dont own a haynes manual ruthie honda manual good enough for me Haynes comes with a lot more pictures and explanation on HOW to service the bike though Also its better layed out and easy to understand. Though if you get to a 5 spanner job... The only repair possible is to buy a grenade, plant it on your bike in the middle of the woods, pull the pin and run. Quote
Boothy Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Right then haynes came this morning so put together a list of everything I need... opinions?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 you need a spanner to fit the bleed nipple,it is normally 8 or 10mm and a piece of hose to go from nipple into a clean container Quote

eastanglianbiker Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 the bleed nipple is already fitted to brake caliper if you look on the front edge of it at the highest point it looks like a bolt with hole in the top,it might have a rubber cap on it Quote
Boothy Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Ahhh now I understand Cheers EAB Worth getting this then?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Draper-One-Handed ... 23121eaa7d Quote

Firstly for brake pads I suggest HH rated ones over GG. HH are better gripping.Carb sync, have you got vacuum gauges? Its easy enough. And valve clearances, I read Jin's haynes manual and it says if they are out you have an issue with the shims, which is hard to show at the rally unless he's actually doing it on your bike! Quote
megawatt Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 We can check em and adjust em if not shims! Bring manual or clearances.Has anybody got any gauges??? Quote
Boothy Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 So shall I bring my haynes or manual or both? Quote
Ingah Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I've got Morgan CarbTune 4. Happy to bring them if necessary and they'll fit on the bike. If it gets me there. Quote
Throttled Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 When adjusted the chain on my bike I found that I had to adjust the drum brake as well. It took ages to get it just right and I had to finish off at the side of the road as I found it was overheating and sticking. When I got it spot, if anyone was in one of the houses I was topped at saw me, they would have wondered what was going on as I punched the air in celebration. Good luck with all your mechanical adventures, I too have adjusted my chain and brake by default and feel like a mechanical god! Quote
