ashloh Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Hi,I've recently aquired a 2011 CBR600f and I've been looking at the chain, it looks really loose, but it's set by the owners manual guide (35mm). Has anyone got any advice as to how much room I have to play with this as I much prefer riding with a tight chain, but I don't want to overstretch the chain. (I don't know what other problems you can cause by over tightening your chain.)Please help. Quote
rennie Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 sit on the bike and get someone else to check the chain!you'll probably find it's right.Although dealers have been known to get things wrong before Quote
megawatt Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 35mm whilst sat on bike is spot on. Better slack, than too tight. Mind you , Ducati Paul,s 150mm was a bit much!!! Quote
whitedevil Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 To loose is better than to tight as it could damage the transmission. My 2002 cbr chain should be between 25-35mm which makes it just to tight to touch the swingarm if you push up on it when on the side stand with no one on it. Quote
Fozzie Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Your swingarm tells you all you need to know or the owners manual! How to measure slack is included, whether the bike is loaded or unloaded when you do it. How much etc. Simply put a ruler on the floor vertically and measure the slack. If it's within tollerance it doesn't need altering Quote
Guest akey Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE CHAINThis will not only wear the chain quicker, it can damage the gearbox output seals and bearings, which is not a cheap repair as the gearbox will need stripping Quote
ashloh Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Thanks for the advice guys. I'll have to put the misses on it next time I check it. Quote
