Urgent Help Needed - Damage To Steering Lock/Ignition Barrel

Recommended Posts

Hey Pitstoppers,

I've got a problem that i'm in some real need of help with before i go on to probably spend a small fortune. Please bare with me if i dont supply any needed information but i am new to biking and dont really know the in's and out's of a motorbike as such yet.

Early hours of the morning somebody decided to attack my motorbike and not having much luck to steal it, they have damage the ignition barrel and as far as i can make out the steering lock.

I never actually noticed the problem until i went to unlock the bike this morning and the key felt very lose in the barrel. Not knowing the problem at the time i turned the key only to find that the entire barrel turned very tightly "lots of pressure required to turn" and never made its usual 3 stage clicks {1st - steering lock on/off, 2nd - battery power on (lights etc), 3rd - engine power on}. {Please see the Youtube video posted below for a better explaination}

">

After further investigation i looked around the bike only to find something that resembles a flat ended bullet lying under the bike itself, not too far from the back of the front wheel {see images below for the object under the bike}. Could anyone tell me if this is part of the ignition/steering lock?

Is the problem going to turn out to be expensive and will i have to wait for a new ignition system from the manufacturer or are ignition systems for want of a better word "universal" fittings

Bike in question is a Daelim Roadsport 125 VJF (Chinese Built)

looks like part of the steering lock to me, will take a look at the vid, i just wanted to be the first one to reply :D

EDIT: Try putting the steering lock on, and if it doesn't work then it is definitely part of it haha.

I think the only way you will definitely know what damage is done is if you take the panel off and have a look. Not sure where you would get replacement parts from if you need them, apart from the garage it was originally sold from

Hi Meal,

That is from the steering lock position (Stage 1 - which no longer works) straight around to the ignition point (Stage 3 - which no longer works).

There is no power what so ever to the bike when turning the key. From the video you can probably tell how hard it is to turn the key in the ignition, it normally clicks twice as it goes through the start up stages (from steering unlock to ignition start area).

I think they have in someway forced the handlebars to the point of snapping the steering lock pin (or whatever the correct name is lol) but i cant figure out how they have managed to damaged the ignition barrel.

If you need any further information or pictures just ask

Can,t see vid , but you need a new ignition lock that should include a steering lock pin. If you can separate the lock from the switch , you can operate the switch with a screwdriver!!! Just use a big lock to stop people riding off on the bike.
