Hi I last took my bike for an MOT in 2009 [March] ,when i was informed that Anodised brake line fittings ie:the Banjo bolts [ which are purple to match the bike ] were considered an advisment notice ,though not illegal for the MOT certinaly not advisable.

Due to circumstances i have not had my bike on the road since that MOT.I am now ready to get back on the road and need to get the bike MOT'd,are anodised brake line fittings now illegal for road use or are they still allowed just advised against ?

I wouldn't risk it mate. Just coz some muppets didn't clean em in winter, they rotted!!! Fit stainless bolts and banjos for no hassle and peace of mind?

Once the anodic film has been breached you are left with untreated aluminium, this is prone to Corrosion and will become weakened quite quickly add to that some high pressure whilst braking and you could be looking at a trip to A&E or worse.

Refit with stainless fittings, safer all round.

Thanks for the replys guys. I agree with your comments on saftey, all i can say is i ran the bike for a couple of years and since not riding it it has been stored in a dry clean enviroment. I beleive the lines and banjo bolts to be in good condition.

But does anyone know if it is an MOT failure for having them fitted ?

as far as i know its not a fail for having them but like others have said it will be safer to replace them anyway more so because the bike has been laid up and could do with fluid being replaced anyway
