are wider tyres better?

like my sv has 160 rear tyre and it feels fine in the corners etc but my old 125 had 140 rear and that felt fine.. whats advantages are there with wider tyres like when sports bikes have 180/200 rear tyre?

and can i put wider on my sv like a sv1000 rear wheel on my 650?

Wheels and tyre's are matched to the bike I wouldn't mess with them too much

the higher the number the better the side grip, the lower the number the quicker it turns.

its that simple really, thats why the 125 you had would of turned in quicker but the sv feels more stable in the bends.

I have a 180 rear slick on my track bike but have had a 190 rear wet tyre to give better grip when on its side in bad conditions.

and no you prob can't fit another bigger than a 160 to an sv, the tyre won't clear the swing arm

carefull with tht one phil if the rim width is too small or too wide for the tyre you can actually reduce the contact patch

a 180 tyre is made for a 5.5 inch rim and a 190 for a 6 inch rim

if you put a 180 on a 6 inch rim you end up on the end of the tyre really quickly been there done it on the tl and its not a good feeling the rear moving about mid corner on the road

Its meant to have a 180 on the 600, the 190 isn't ideal but had no issues with it being on. it clears the swing arm ok and was only a wet tyre so wasn't going all out on it.

so the 190 will actually be pulled in causing the tyre edges to curve in more and reducing the contact patch

you also get more grip on the track and a lot less on the road so you need as much as you can get with road tyres

Prob won't fit as the tyre won't clear the swing arm, and no point it won't turn as quickly as it does now. The 650 handles really well do don't bother switching

Only benefit would be better/more choice of tyres but they won't fit lol
