'97 Suzuki GS 500E.

It started fine and i rode it about 5 miles, but i felt that the engine needed some revving (dumb) to remove some gunk from the exhaust..

So i started revving it quite hard and black smoke was coming out, and then it just seized and made a horrible churning sound before cutting off all together.

Breakdown came out and the guy said that it doesnt sound like an internal engine problem to him, the starter click works when you hit the ignition.

I had to push the guy on my bike so that he could hear the sound and he accepts that it sounded horrible, it wont start at all.

No sorry, it will tick over but the the churning sound is obviously preventing it from firing up.

I changed my first clutch cable ever on this bike and he did say that maybe i did it wrong (although, its been running for miles fine on the clutch i put in, i even did a 400 mile trip to see family with the clutch) and that maybe something was rubbing when i was revving the bike making it worse.

He thinks its the starter motor even though it clicks in.

I rang an expensively notorious garage near me and the guy said over the phone that it sounds like the cam chain tensioner and that it would cost £400 and that i might need to scrap the bike..

The bike only has 35k on it and its my first..

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Sounds to me like the piston rings have failed if its burning oil

Anyhow its an engine out jobby and if its done at the garage it will easilly cost more than the bikes worth.

my advice would be sell it as spares or repairs or try and pickup a salaved engine.

full engine with 27k out of a 98 on E-bay, £300 best bet I'm afraid. Get a manual, tools and it shouldnt be too major a job to swap the engine, unbolt ancileries, drop engine, replace engine, reconnect everything up. Change oil, filter and plugs and away you go. The fact its air cooled is in your favour!

advertise your engine as a non runner on ebay and you might claw 50-100 back..

moved to pitstop!!

it could be a number of things without taking the engine apart and having a look your not going to know

first things i would do is remove plugs remove cam cover and turn it over by hand to see if you can see anything a miss on the top end

if a ring has snapped chances are it will have scored the bore and will need a re bore and hone or maybe a sleeve inserting

if it is making a churing sound after siezing then i would say it could well of damaged the crankshaft have you run it low on oil at some point, but like the others say its going to take some looking at and then possibly replacement engine unless you find it is something simple

May have dropped a valve. In any event it sounds like an engine strip to investigate may be required.
