donhuzayfa Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hi guys, I want to get my motorbike frame resprayed, does this mean taking everything off? I dont mind taking off the fairings but I dont want to take all the wiring and other things off! ,because I dont have a motorcycle paint specialist anywhere near me I was thinking of handing it to a car resprayer without the fairings, and also, what would happen (I know this is STUPID) if I sprayed the bike frame with normal spray? eastanglianbiker Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 if you want it done properly and for it to last then you have got to strip it right down and fully degrease it otherwise the paint will look crap after a while with bits flaking everywhere Quote
Bogof Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hammerite (or Smoothrite), brush, masking tape and lots of newspaper. Quote
Tango Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Get it powder coated......will last forever (nearly)... Quote
Bogof Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Get it powder coated......will last forever (nearly)... He doesn't want to strip it though, which pretty much rules out powder-coating? Quote

He doesn't want to strip it though, which pretty much rules out powder-coating?Agreed....but painting it without proper cleaning and degreasing will be a pointless exercise.....Hammerite is good.....but not THAT good....Proper job is a strip and powder coat.....sorry, can't help being a perfectionist.... Bogof Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 sorry, can't help being a perfectionist.... Perfection doesn't fit with youthful impetuosity though Apparently. Don't recall that far back myself Quote

Don't recall that far back myself Yeah...I struggle to remember back that far. What I do remember though is some truly disasterous paint jobs I've done.......impatience being the root cause of all of them.... Colin the Bear Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Dip the whole bike in a tank of paint. The hot bits will burn it off and it will wear off the bits that move. Quote
