GazW Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I know some vauxhalls can show fake signs of HGF with frequent short journeys. Does this apply to bikes aswell? The oil itself looks of even consistancy, no 'mayo' on the dipstick, just a patch of white gunk on the inside of the sight glass. The coolant level has remained the same, is this purely from short journeys? Haven't really ridden much further than ten miles in one go for a fair few weeks. Hope its just condensation, should I be worried? Bike is a Gpz500s Quote
megawatt Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Probably just a bit of condensation from not having ridden it much or for long enough. Go for a good long blast or leave it running until the fan cuts in. Remove the oil filler cap while it's hot and hopefully the moisture will evaporate. Check the breather into the air filter as well for gunge in there. Edited November 17, 2011 by megawatt Quote

Let it heat up, open oil filler cap with a rag and leave for a minute or two so long as oil isnt spilling...Curious though, I would expect to see oil in the sight glass and not condensation Is it definately white gunk or is it something else possibly more troublesome? GazW Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 I'll get some pictures later, its stuck to the glass, with the engine off the sight glass is full of oil, when its running this level drops drastically, the gunk is still there. Quote
Roadtorque Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Should be two lines on the glass or on the rim of the casting,, the oil should be level with the top line with the bike in the upright position, give the bike a bit of a blast & I think you will find the window will clear itself Quote
Colin the Bear Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Put some windowlene in the oil to clean the glass Noo! don't , just kidding Quote
