Got a 2008 baby vara and it has developed a strange problem, on the flat in fourth gear, when it suddenly starts juddering, then jumps out of gear into a false neutral, did it twice yesterday...but on the long hill we have near me, it was fine. Took it in to local dealers to see what they say, not a lot, adjusted the chain and lets see attitude.

Left there and it did it again, this time in third gear, only once though.

Now...is this clutch or the gearbox on their way out ?, which will not go with what they say about Honda's....bulletproof...lol, for this thing has done 21000 miles ..only.

Hopefully it is something simple and wont cost an arm and a leg

Sounds like it could be the gear selector. Maybe the selector forks are slightly bent. It's not likely to be the clutch...as that would most likely slip or drag. How's you engine oil? Has it been replaced recently?

Just got it in August and the guy who owned it before, looked after it, got all service docs etc....but as to what oil is in it...aint got a clue, not too mechanically minded, the old grey cells dont like learning new things..lol

It is going in tomorrow for them to check it out...hopefully it is something simple and cheap to fix.

I had the baby 'dero when I was on L-plates - it used to do exactly what you are describing when I hadn't kicked it up into gear quite hard enough. The SV does it in second particularly if you haven't kicked the gear lever all the way up.
