This is the 4th Year Of The Annual Overnight Ride From Holyhead To Skegness and it takes place overnight on June 23rd/24th 2012.

The ride departs from Southstack Car park, Holyhead at 9.30pm and travels across country (no Motorways) and aims to arrive at Skegness by 4.15am just as the sun rises.

The ride/route is fully marshalled and there are plenty of fuel/refreshment stops along the way.

Participants are asked to pre-register (Rider only £10, Rider and Pillion £15) through our website:

http://www.bikers4macmillan.org.uk/overnightride.aspx

All funds raised go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Would like to know a bit more about this and how other bikers cope with getting to the event and getting home afterwards.

With riding all night one would assume to spend the full day before in bed, but the to get to the event start could take a 3 hour bike ride anyway. eg I would come form the wirral. And then after the event a ride back across the country from skegness - how have other bikes handled this?

Hello, I'm involved in the organisation of the ride, this will be my first time taking place but what we(the committee) and the majority are doing is to ride over for the Friday evening, few drinks etc and stay in a b&b, the next day I'm not too sure of but I just know that for us it starts with a big breakfast at morrisons and then the ride commences 9:30pm that night. As for the other end, we aim to arrive at 4:15am, breakfast is supplied, photos with thd mayor etc, apparrantly last time a few people just grabbed 40 winks on the grass along the seafront and we're trying to get a few pergolas put up for this year. In a few other forums there's conversations of people booking a b&b in Skeggy for that night and then heading home the next day. We are heading over from Lincolnshire, but if you like I could find out of there's anyone else near to you who's registers if you'd like to join them?

Hope this answers some of your questions, happy to answer any more.

yeah, thanks that would be good, I am going to ask my mate (we are both fairly new bikers) if he wants to come as well, I was thinking of doing a b&b the night before but does that just not mean you have to hang around all day waiting for the event to start?

and at the other end would you not have to wait until the afternoon to get into your accommodation?

I did it last year with Jota, Bev and Mark.

Mark rode over the night before and stayed in a B&B

Jota lives on Anglesey so started from there (Didn't envy him & Bev having to ride the extra miles home)

Me :D I thought it would be a good idea to go for a blast over snowdonia and get the Tag from the other side of Wales before heading up to the start line  What an idiot, i was fooked before we started.

We all just rode straight back home afterwards.

TBH if you are new to riding it is a large undertaking to ride for that lengh of time (17 hours for me)

The ride itself is well organised with plenty of breaks. Its the journey home afterwards which is the killer. Find yourself a motorway service station with a quiet corner to grab an hour or two. As you won't find many B&Bs that will let you book in at 5am for a couple of hours.

But like i said its very well organised, you feel welcome from the moment you turn up. the route is well set out and the marshalls do their job superbly. If you have the time off and fancy a challenge for a good cause its worth doing. (and you get a sticker)
