Guest Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I posted a little while ago about my carb being blocked, couldnt solve it so i just went n bought a new carb. now the bike will start no problem. i left it running for a good 10-15 mins on idle and when i go to open the choke it cuts out and when i open the throttle it cuts out aswell. i must be making a stupid mistake which i'll probably kick myself for later but have no experience with carbs so need help, any will be much appreciated Quote
Tango Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Why would you open the choke when its running? Do you mean switch the choke off? Quote
Guest Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 All I've been told is it might be were I need to adjust a screw. My new carb is patten it isn't the same as my original one and I don't think its adjusted right.... How do you adjust it?? Quote
mattycoops43 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 How to adjust a carb? There's a whole book worth there, I suggest taking it to someone who knows how to. Quote
Guest Swagman Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Probably the mixture screw maybe running lean, if you can find the screw start by screwing it in all the way in then back it out 2-1/2 turns to start with then try it and adjust from there hope this helps. Quote
mattycoops43 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Some carbs you screw in, and some modern ones you screw out. some have several screws. I wouldn't start messing with carbs unless you got a haynes at least to know what your tweaking. Quote
Tango Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Yeah....you've got to make sure it's got the correct size main jet in there and the needle is in the correct groove and the throttle cable is adjusted correctly.....info that is normally in the Haynes manual. You could compare the needle setting with the carb you took off and also that the main jet is the same size....assuming the new carb is exactly the same as the one you have taken off..... Quote
Guest Swagman Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Its a pattern carb so wont be in the haynes manual Quote
mattycoops43 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 If it's a pattern carb, as in a cheaper copy of a factory one, it will still have all the screws and adjustment in the same place, but some of the turns might be slightly out, the Haynes settings should still get you somewhere close.if by pattern you mean a completely different carb that just happens to fit your bike, then you are in a world of pain!
