Colin the Bear Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Much like any product made to fit the human form, the numbers rarely match the subject. This vital piece of safety equipment must fit properly or it is useless and may even cause more damage in an incident if it fits poorly.Ordering a replacement helmet, same model/manufacturer there's a chance it will fit the same but for a new helmet you need to try it on.Helmets come in a variety of shapes, lengths, widths and depths. Just like heads. Please don't buy it because it's a pretty colour at a bagain price.Buy it because it fits properly and is a pretty colour at a bargain price. Quote
croup101 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 have to try it on to make sure, if you dont have time make time its the single most important piece of kit you will own Quote
Joeman Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 However, if you do order on-line, contrary to popular belief, if doesnt fit you are within your rights to return the item within 7 days for a refund. Lots of people seem to think that helmets cannot be returned if ordered online, but this is not the case.So nothing actually stopping you ordering both sizes and returning the one that doesn't fit. Tango Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 TBH David....you are better going to a shop and trying the helmets on. The size guides can vary wildly....and the last thing you need is a lid that is too loose or one that will give you a headache after 30 mins riding. Always try the lid on.....then buy the one that fits online if it's a better deal.... Quote

Even if it is a better deal online, do you really trust the postman not to chuck it about in the back of the van??standard helmet packaging isnt great, and you can bet if they knew it was a helmet they would think it was ok to throw it about. Totally get your point. However, how do you think they get delivered at the shop? Lol Quote

Lol doubt they use royal mail!More likely distributor delivers them, and to would hope the distributor knows not to chuck them about!Raises an interesting point.. Just how much force does it take to ruin a helmet? Are we all a little paranoid?? Quote
Weebl Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Raises an interesting point.. Just how much force does it take to ruin a helmet? Are we all a little paranoid?? I think a bit of mythology has grown up around helmets definitely. It seems that a lot of people believe that unless you spend £400 on a helmet you may as well just go and headbutt the road now for all the good it will do, and if you so much as breathe on it then it disintegrates into a useless ball of plastic and foam. The way a helmet is designed, is to use the foam core to slow down the deceleration of your head when the shell meets something hard. It is this foam deformation that we are worried about, not a little tap on the outer shell. If you knock the helmet while carrying it, or it is dropped while in it's box, then the foam does nothing because without your head in it, it had no mass to decelerate and so will not deform.I am not saying don't bother to take care of it while you are not wearing it, after all, it is meant to protect your head, is generally reasonably expensive and generally looks better of the paint finish is not covered in scratches and chips, but you will not render it completely useless by giving it a relatively gentle knock without your head in it. More likely they would use a courier service, DHL/UPS etc to deliver for them.. Have you seen how much they sometimes cram into their vans? When they're doing 50 or 60 drops a day they aren't going to be that bothered if the packages have got crash helmets, fine bone china or cuddly toys in them.. Quote
